NPC Interactions & Merchants

Beyond the relentless combat, Sekiro's world is populated by a handful of crucial NPCs and merchants who offer invaluable services, items, and even lore insights. Engaging with them regularly is key to your progression, allowing you to upgrade your tools, purchase consumables, and uncover hidden quests.

The Sculptor

Your steadfast companion and the keeper of the Dilapidated Temple, the Sculptor is more than just a lore-giver. He is your primary hub for Prosthetic Tool upgrades and is essential for progressing your combat capabilities.

  • Location: Always found at the Dilapidated Temple.
  • Services:
    • Prosthetic Tool Upgrades: Bring him Prosthetic Tool Upgrade Materials (e.g., Scrap Iron, Black Gunpowder, Fulminated Mercury, Adamantite) and Sen to unlock and enhance your Shinobi Prosthetic tools. Each upgrade often requires specific materials found throughout Ashina.
    • Healing Gourd Replenishment: Speak to him to replenish your Healing Gourd uses after resting at a Sculptor's Idol.
    • Lore: He offers cryptic but important lore about Ashina, the Divine Heir, and the nature of immortality. His dialogue changes as you progress through the story.
    • Dragonrot: The Sculptor is one of the first NPCs to contract Dragonrot. Healing him with a Dragon's Blood Droplet will advance the Dragonrot Cure questline.
  • Key Items to Bring:
    • Mechanical Barrel: Found after defeating the Gyoubu Oniwa boss in Ashina Outskirts. This unlocks advanced Prosthetic Tool upgrades.
    • Flame Barrel: Found in Hirata Estate.
    • Mist Raven's Feathers: Found in Hirata Estate.

Emma

The compassionate physician tending to the Sculptor, Emma plays a pivotal role in understanding and combating Dragonrot, as well as offering crucial upgrades to your Healing Gourd.

  • Location: Initially at the Dilapidated Temple. Her location may shift slightly during certain questlines.
  • Services:
    • Healing Gourd Seeds: Bring her Gourd Seeds to increase the maximum number of times you can use your Healing Gourd. These are vital for survivability.
    • Dragonrot Research: She spearheads the research into Dragonrot. Speak to her after encountering your first Dragonrot victim (often the Sculptor) to begin this questline.
    • Dragon's Blood Droplet: After progressing her quest, she will provide you with the Dragon's Blood Droplet and the Recovery Charm, allowing you to cure Dragonrot at a Sculptor's Idol.
    • Endings: Emma is central to unlocking certain endings, particularly the "Immortal Severance" and "Return" endings. Pay close attention to her dialogue and follow her requests.
  • Key Items to Bring:
    • Gourd Seeds: Found throughout the world, often dropped by mini-bosses or found in chests.
    • Blood Sample: Emma will request a blood sample from a Dragonrot victim to aid her research. The Old Hag in Ashina Outskirts is a good candidate.
