The Great Serpent Encounters — Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Walkthrough
The Great Serpent is a formidable creature guarding the secrets of Sunken Valley. Encountering and defeating this boss is crucial for progression and yields an important Key Item. This guide details the steps to successfully navigate the encounters and ultimately slay the Great Serpent, including specific locations and required actions.
To encounter the Great Serpent, first defeat Boss #2, Gyoubu Oniwa. After this, evade the Great Serpent in the Underbridge Valley and reach the Sculptor’s Idol in the Ashina Castle Gate Fortress. Proceed through the fortress grounds.
From the Great Serpent Shrine Idol, follow a dirt path down to the Great Serpent Shrine, being mindful of Monkeys. Here, you can find the NPC Tengu of Ashina, who asks if you have learned any secret Techniques, referring to unlocking the Final Art of any Arts Tree.
To deal with the Great Serpent, travel to the first Senpou Temple Idol. Drop down the cliff to the broken bridge with a Seeker Monk. Drop down again to find a Senpou Assassin next to a Kite Contraption. Perform a Stealth Deathblow on the Assassin and use Puppeteer Ninjutsu on him. He will operate the Contraption, raising the Kite high into the sky.
Leave the Sunken Valley Cavern Idol and pass through the cave into the Sunken Valley. Walk out onto a wooden beam over the valley. Look down to see the Great Serpent conveniently below. Leap off the beam and perform a series of cinematic Deathblows to slay it. This grants the "Great Serpent" achievement and the Key Item, Fresh Serpent Viscera. After defeating the Great Serpent, you will land on the other side of the bridge it previously destroyed. Continue into a dead-end cave to find a Dragon’s Blood Droplet.
The Great Serpent is one of two bosses that does not count towards the Man Without Equal Achievement.
