Headless are spectral apparitions that pose a significant threat due to their ability to inflict Terror, a status effect that can lead to instant death if not managed. These enemies are encountered in various locations, including the Ashina Castle and the Sunken Valley. Their attacks are often telegraphed but can be difficult to avoid due to their speed and wide area of effect. The primary danger comes from their grab attack, which inflicts a massive amount of Terror. To combat them effectively, players must utilize specific items and strategies. The Divine Confetti is a crucial consumable that temporarily increases your attack power against apparitions and allows you to deal damage to them. Without Divine Confetti, Headless are virtually invulnerable.

When facing a Headless, the first priority is to apply Divine Confetti. Once active, focus on deflecting their melee assaults. Their attacks often involve sweeping motions with their spectral limbs and a devastating grab. Dodging backward is generally safer than attempting to deflect the grab. After a successful deflection or a brief opening, land a few quick hits. The Loaded Umbrella Prosthetic Tool can be invaluable here, providing a defensive barrier that can block most of their attacks and even reflect some projectiles. If you have the skills to perform a Mikiri Counter, it can be used against their lunging attacks, but be cautious as their Terror-inducing grab is different. The presence of other enemies near Headless encounters can be a major hindrance, so try to isolate the Headless if possible. Consider using the Ako's Sugar for an attack boost or the Gokan's Sugar to increase Posture recovery if you find yourself struggling to deflect consistently. Remember that Headless respawn, so efficient clearing is key to minimizing repeated encounters.
