Umbrella & Defense Strategies
The Shinobi Prosthetic - Loaded Umbrella is a cornerstone of defensive play in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, offering unparalleled protection against a wide array of attacks. Its primary function is to block incoming damage, but its true strength lies in its ability to parry and counter. Holding the block button deploys the umbrella, absorbing most physical and elemental damage. However, certain attacks, like perilous thrusts and sweeps, will still bypass the umbrella's defense. The key to maximizing the Loaded Umbrella's utility is understanding its upgrades and associated combat arts. The Phoenix's Lilac upgrade allows the umbrella to deflect projectiles, making it invaluable against archers and mages. Furthermore, the Sakura Dance combat art, when activated after a successful block, unleashes a powerful counter-attack. This can be particularly effective against enemies with predictable attack patterns, such as the Seven Ashina Spears. When facing bosses like the Guardian Ape, the umbrella can absorb its devastating slams, allowing you to find an opening for a counter-attack. While the umbrella provides excellent defense, it does not grant invincibility. Continuous blocking will deplete your posture, leaving you vulnerable. Therefore, it's crucial to use the umbrella strategically, blocking only when necessary and looking for opportunities to counter-attack. The Loaded Axe can be used to break an enemy's guard after they've attacked into the umbrella, creating a stagger opportunity.
