Lady Butterfly
Lady Butterfly is a formidable boss encounter that tests the player's mastery of Sekiro's core combat mechanics, particularly deflection and evasion. This phantom boss resides within the Hirata Estate, a location steeped in memory and illusion. Her fight is characterized by rapid, multi-hit combos, the use of illusionary projectiles, and the summoning of spectral butterflies that can inflict damage. The arena itself is a series of rooftops, offering limited space for maneuvering and emphasizing the need for precise positioning. Lady Butterfly's attacks are swift and often come in unpredictable sequences, requiring constant vigilance and a keen sense of timing to parry effectively. Her presence sifies a major hurdle in the early to mid-game, demanding that players refine their defensive capabilities and learn to identify openings for counter-attacks.
The fight against Lady Butterfly is divided into two distinct phases, each presenting unique challenges. In her first phase, she employs a flurry of sword attacks, often punctuated by a leaping overhead strike that can be deflected or dodged. She also utilizes a projectile attack where she throws a series of glowing kunai, which can be dodged by sidestepping or blocked, though deflection is generally preferred to maintain posture damage. A particularly dangerous move is her rapid series of slashes followed by a grab attempt, which must be avoided at all costs. The key to surviving this phase is to remain aggressive yet controlled, deflecting her attacks to build her posture damage while looking for opportunities to land a few hits. The use of the Shinobi Firecracker prosthetic tool can briefly stun her, creating a valuable window for offense.
The second phase of the Lady Butterfly encounter introduces new threats and amplifies existing ones. She gains the ability to summon a swarm of spectral butterflies that home in on the player, dealing damage and obscuring vision. These butterflies can be dispersed by attacking them or by using the Loaded Umbrella prosthetic tool to block them. Additionally, she gains a devastating jumping attack where she leaps into the air and dives down with a flurry of strikes, often preceded by a brief illusionary sequence. Successfully deflecting this attack is crucial for dealing significant posture damage. Players who struggle with her speed and aggression should focus on mastering the deflection timing and utilizing the environment to their advantage, such as using the rooftops to create distance when necessary. Defeating Lady Butterfly rewards You with a Memory, which can be used to increase their attack power, and theerequisite for further progression in the game.
