Crafting & Resources
In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, while there isn't a traditional crafting system in the vein of many RPGs, the acquisition and utilization of resources are paramount for character progression and combat effectiveness. The primary means of enhancing the player's capabilities lies in upgrading the Shinobi Prosthetic and learning new Combat Arts. These upgrades and skills require specific resources found throughout the game world. Key among these are Sen, the in-game currency, and various crafting materials such as Scrap Iron, Black Gunpowder, and Adamantine. These materials are often found on defeated enemies, in chests, or scattered throughout the environment, encouraging thorough exploration.
The Sculptor, a key NPC found at the Dilapidated Temple, is the central figure for prosthetic upgrades. Players must bring him Sen and specific materials to unlock new prosthetic tools or enhance existing ones. For example, the Loaded Axe requires Scrap Iron, while the Loaded Spear might need Black Gunpowder. Each upgrade not only grants a new offensive or defensive capability but also consumes Spirit Emblems during use, making Spirit Emblem management a crucial aspect of combat. Spirit Emblems are replenished at Sculptor's Idols, the game's equivalent of bonfires, but can also be found as loot or purchased from merchants. Beyond prosthetic upgrades, learning new Combat Arts requires Skill Points, earned by defeating enemies and bosses, and sometimes specific items like the Dragon's Tallyboard.
Beyond direct upgrades, consumable items play a significant role in Sekiro's resource management. Gourd Seeds, when given to Emma at the Dilapidated Temple, increase the number of Healing Gourd uses, a vital resource for survival. Prayer Beads, found in hidden locations or dropped by mini-bosses, increase the player's maximum Vitality and Posture. Furthermore, various consumable items like Pellets, Divine Confetti, and Ungo's Sugar offer temporary buffs or healing. Divine Confetti, for instance, is essential for dealing damage to apparitional enemies like the Headless Ape, while Ungo's Sugar provides a temporary defense boost. Efficiently gathering and managing these resources, from Sen and crafting materials to Spirit Emblems and healing items, is fundamental to overcoming the game's increasingly difficult challenges and achieving victory.
