Overview
The final confrontation against Mental's True Form is a multi-stage battle that combines elements of all previous encounters. Mental is a colossal, ethereal entity that manipulates the environment and summons endless hordes of his most powerful minions. This fight is a true test of endurance and mastery of all your weapons.
Phases & Attacks
- Phase 1: Environmental Manipulation & Minion Spawns: Mental will appear as a giant, disembodied head or hand, attacking with massive energy blasts, ground slams, and summoning waves of all enemy types (Biomechanoids, Werebulls, Arachnoids, etc.). The arena itself will often change or become hazardous.
- Phase 2: Core Exposure: After dealing enough damage, Mental will briefly expose a glowing core or weak point. This is your window to deal significant damage.
- Phase 3: Relentless Assault & Power-up Usage: As Mental's health depletes, the enemy spawns become more frequent and aggressive. Mental will also use more devastating environmental attacks. Power-ups will often appear in the arena during this phase.
Strategy
- Weapons: All weapons are vital. Use the Minigun and Laser Gun for sustained damage on Mental's main body. Rocket Launcher and Cannon are crucial for exposed weak points and clearing large groups of minions. Shotgun for close-range threats.
- Movement: Constant, frantic movement is non-negotiable. Dodge everything. Prioritize avoiding Mental's direct attacks and the projectiles from his minions.
- Targeting: Focus on Mental's main form when no weak points are exposed. When the core is visible, unload everything you have into it. Quickly clear high-threat minions (Biomechanoids, Werebulls) to reduce incoming damage.
- Enemy Spawns: This is the biggest challenge. You must manage the endless waves of enemies while simultaneously damaging Mental. Use area-of-effect weapons like the Rocket Launcher or Grenade Launcher to thin out crowds.
- Power-ups: Save Serious Damage and Invulnerability for when Mental's core is exposed. This is your best chance to deal massive damage. Use Serious Speed to navigate the chaotic arena and collect pickups.
- Environment: The arena will often have destructible elements or hazards. Use them to your advantage if possible, but mostly focus on staying in open areas to avoid being cornered.
Rewards
Defeating Mental's True Form completes the main story of Serious Sam 3: BFE, triggering the final cinematic and credits. You'll earn the satisfaction of saving humanity (for now) and likely several achievements for completing the game.
