Drill Knight is the final boss of Shovel Knight Dig, a multi-phase battle that tests all your accumulated skills and knowledge. He is relentless and powerful, requiring precise dodging and strategic use of your Relics.
Phases:
- Phase 1: Ground Assault: Drill Knight charges across the arena, leaving damaging debris. He performs powerful ground pounds that create shockwaves and crumble platforms. He also burrows and re-emerges quickly, often summoning smaller Drill Bots to assist him.
- Phase 2: Aerial Onslaught: Drill Knight takes to the air in a large drilling machine. He flies around, firing volleys of projectiles, and dive-bombs the arena, creating large shockwaves. He also summons large, spinning drills that act as environmental hazards.
Weaknesses & Strategy:
Phase 1: Focus on dodging his charges and ground pounds. Attack his back or head with Shovel Drops after he completes an attack. Quickly eliminate summoned Drill Bots to prevent being overwhelmed. The Phase Locket is invaluable for dodging through his attacks. The Dust Knuckles can provide quick burst damage when you have an opening. Stay mobile and conserve magic for critical moments.
Phase 2: This phase requires excellent aerial control. Damage Drill Knight by Shovel Dropping on his head or bouncing off his projectiles. Use Relics like the Propeller Dagger for aerial mobility and positioning. The Flare Wand can deal consistent damage from a distance. Prioritize avoiding his dive-bombs and the spinning drills. This phase is a test of endurance and precise movement. Use any remaining healing items strategically. Keep the pressure on and exploit any brief moments of vulnerability.
