Spore Knight is the boss of the Mushroom Mines. He is a large, fungal knight who commands spores and uses his environment to his advantage. Understanding his patterns is key to victory.
Phases:
- Phase 1: Ground & Spore Attacks: Spore Knight will primarily move around the arena, occasionally performing a short dash. His main attacks involve launching volleys of spores that float slowly through the air. These spores can be destroyed with your Shovel Blade. He also has a ground pound attack that releases a small shockwave and causes mushrooms to sprout from the ground. Some of these mushrooms are bouncy, others are spiked.
- Phase 2: Enraged Spores: After taking significant damage, Spore Knight becomes more aggressive. He will launch more spores, and some will be larger and explode upon contact or after a short delay, leaving behind damaging gas clouds. His ground pound will be more frequent, and the spiked mushrooms will appear more often.
Weaknesses & Strategy:
Spore Knight is vulnerable to direct attacks from your Shovel Blade and Shovel Drop. The most consistent way to damage him is to get close and attack his head. When he launches spores, clear them quickly to create openings. Use the bouncy mushrooms to gain height for Shovel Drops or to dodge his ground pounds. Relics like the Flare Wand can provide consistent damage from a distance, while the Dust Knuckles can help you close the gap and deal burst damage. The Phase Locket is excellent for dodging through his spore attacks or ground pounds. Focus on avoiding the spiked mushrooms and the lingering gas clouds in Phase 2. Keep moving, clear spores, and punish his recovery frames after attacks.
