Blue Creek Apartments: First Floor
Upon entering the Blue Creek Apartments, James must navigate the dilapidated first floor, searching for clues and essential items while confronting the unsettling atmosphere and the creatures that inhabit it. The primary objective here is to find a means of accessing the second floor.
Exploration and Item Acquisition
The first floor of Blue Creek Apartments is a labyrinth of darkened hallways and locked doors, interspersed with a few accessible apartments. Careful exploration is key to survival and progression.
-
Apartment Entrance and Initial Navigation:
As you enter the Blue Creek Apartments from the exterior, immediately to your left, leaning against the wall near the main entrance door, you will find the Blue Creek Apartments Map. This is a crucial item that will help you orient yourself within the building. Pick it up to add it to your inventory. The map will reveal the layout of the first and second floors, highlighting apartment numbers and key areas like the stairwell.

Apartment 103: A Glimpse of the Past
Proceed down the main hallway. Apartment 103 is one of the first accessible units. Inside, you will find a Health Drink, a vital consumable for restoring your health. Additionally, on a table near the center of the room, you will discover a Note. This note contains a cryptic message from one of the former residents, hinting at the unsettling events that transpired here. It reads: "It's not just the fog. Something else is here. It whispers... it watches. I can't stay. I have to get out." While not directly related to a puzzle, this note adds to the oppressive atmosphere and foreshadows the dangers James will face.
-
Apartment 105: A Much-Needed Weapon
Continue further down the hallway to Apartment 105. This apartment is slightly more ransacked than the previous one. On the floor, near a overturned chair, you will find the Shotgun. This is a significant upgrade to your combat capabilities, offering much greater stopping power than your starting pistol. Alongside the Shotgun, you will also find a box containing Shotgun Shells. Be mindful that Shotgun Shells are a scarce resource, so use this weapon judiciously.
Progressing to the Second Floor
Once you have explored the accessible apartments on the first floor and acquired the necessary items, your next objective is to ascend to the second level of the building.
-
The Locked Stairwell:
Make your way to the main stairwell located at the far end of the first-floor hallway. You will find the door leading to the second-floor landing is locked. There is no key to find for this door on the first floor. Instead, interacting with the door will trigger a brief cutscene or dialogue from James, indicating that it is jammed or otherwise impassable from this side. The mechanism to open this door is located on the second floor itself, requiring you to find an alternate route or trigger an event to gain access.
-
Finding an Alternate Route:
Since the main stairwell door is impassable, you must find another way to reach the second floor. Look for a partially open window in one of the apartments on the first floor, or a fire escape accessible from an apartment. In the Blue Creek Apartments, the path to the second floor involves a specific sequence. After examining the locked stairwell door, return to the hallway. You will notice a new path has opened up, or a previously blocked area is now accessible. This often involves a subtle environmental change or the appearance of a new pathway. In this remake, the path to the second floor is typically revealed after a specific trigger event or after exploring all accessible areas of the first floor. The game will guide you towards a different access point, often a precarious climb or a hidden passage, which will lead you to the second floor's exterior or a different internal access point.
Crucially, to unlock the stairwell door from the second floor side: After finding a way to reach the second floor (often via a balcony or a different stairwell entrance), you will need to navigate the second floor's corridors. You will eventually find the mechanism or switch that releases the lock on the main stairwell door, allowing you to descend back to the first floor and then ascend the main stairs properly, or it will open the path to progress further within the second floor.

Combat and Survival Tips
- The Shotgun is your most potent weapon against the creatures encountered in the apartments. However, its ammunition is extremely limited. Save it for situations where you are overwhelmed or facing a particularly dangerous enemy.
- Conserve ammunition for your pistol whenever possible. Aim for headshots to maximize damage.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Enemies can emerge from unexpected places, including closets and behind furniture.
- The fog outside and within the apartments can obscure vision, making it harder to spot enemies. Listen carefully for audio cues.
Potential Pitfalls
- Missing the Blue Creek Apartments Map near the entrance can make navigation significantly more challenging.
- Wasting Shotgun Shells on weaker enemies will leave you vulnerable later in the game.
- Failing to find the alternate route to the second floor can lead to prolonged backtracking and frustration.
