Chapter 13: Iron Jaw Gulch

Welcome to Iron Jaw Gulch, Portal Master! This chapter presents a thrilling mix of environmental puzzles, enemy encounters, and hidden treasures. Prepare your Skylanders for a journey through treacherous canyons and ancient ruins. A strong Earth Skylander will be particularly useful here for accessing a specific Elemental Gate, but a well-rounded team is always recommended.

Initial Ascent and First Encounters

  • Starting Point: As you begin, you'll find yourself at the bottom of a canyon. Head straight up the path.
  • Enemy Wave: You'll soon encounter a group of Chompy Pods and a few Chompies. Focus on destroying the Pods first to prevent an endless supply of enemies.
  • Treasure Chest (1/3): After clearing the initial enemies, look to your left. There's a small alcove containing the first Treasure Chest.
  • Path Forward: Continue along the main path, which will lead you to a series of ledges. Jump across them carefully.

The Ancient Ruins and Elemental Gate

  • Ruined Structure: You'll arrive at a more open area with crumbling stone structures. More Chompies and some Drow Spearmen will emerge. Prioritize the Drow Spearmen as their ranged attacks can be annoying.
  • Elemental Gate (Earth): To the right of the ruined structure, you'll spot an Earth Elemental Gate.
    • Requirement: An Earth Skylander (e.g., Terrafin, Bash) is needed to open this gate.
    • Inside the Gate: Beyond the gate, you'll find a small puzzle involving moving blocks to create a path. Navigate this to reach a Soul Gem (Terrafin). This Soul Gem unlocks a powerful upgrade for Terrafin's abilities.
  • Main Path Continuation: If you don't have an Earth Skylander, or after completing the Elemental Gate, proceed through the archway in the main ruined structure.

The Canyon Bridge and Kaos's Challenge

  • Bridge Section: You'll come to a rickety wooden bridge spanning a deep chasm. Be wary of falling rocks that will periodically drop from above. Time your movements carefully.
  • Enemy Ambush: Halfway across the bridge, a group of Greebles and a few Shield Drones will appear. Use area-of-effect attacks to deal with the Greebles, and flank the Shield Drones to hit their unprotected backs.
  • Treasure Chest (2/3): Immediately after crossing the bridge, look to your right before continuing. There's a small ledge with the second Treasure Chest.
  • Kaos's Challenge Portal: Just beyond the bridge, you'll see a Kaos's Challenge Portal.
    • Challenge: This challenge typically involves defeating waves of enemies within a time limit. Be prepared for a tough fight, often featuring a mix of Chompies, Drow, and sometimes even Cyclops.
    • Reward: Successfully completing Kaos's Challenge will grant you a significant amount of gold and experience.

The Mine Cart Ride and Final Stretch

  • Mine Cart Station: After the Kaos's Challenge, you'll reach a mine cart station. Interact with the cart to begin a thrilling on-rails segment.
  • Mine Cart Combat: During the ride, you'll encounter various enemies, including flying Drow Spearmen and ground-based Chompies. You'll need to attack them from the cart. Prioritize enemies that are directly in your path or those that pose an immediate threat.
  • Story Scroll: Keep an eye out during the mine cart ride! About two-thirds of the way through, on a small platform to your left, you'll see the Story Scroll. You'll need to quickly shoot it or use a ranged attack to collect it as you pass by.
  • End of Ride: The mine cart will eventually stop at another platform.
  • Treasure Chest (3/3): Upon disembarking from the mine cart, look immediately to your left. There's a small hidden path leading to the final Treasure Chest.
  • Exit Portal: Proceed forward from the mine cart station, and you'll quickly reach the Exit Portal, marking the completion of Iron Jaw Gulch.
