Collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds is a core side objective in Sonic Advance 2, essential for unlocking the true ending and Super Sonic. To access a Special Stage, you must collect all seven Special Rings hidden within a single act. There are two Special Rings per act, meaning you need to find all 14 Special Rings across both acts of a zone to unlock the Special Stage for that zone. Once you have all seven Special Rings for a zone, the next time you complete an act in that zone, you will be transported to a Special Stage.
Special Stages are 3D tube-like levels where you chase a Chaos Emerald, collecting rings and avoiding bombs. You need to collect a certain number of rings before reaching the end to successfully claim the Emerald. The ring requirement increases with each subsequent Special Stage. Mastering the controls in these stages, which involve tilting the tube to move left and right, is crucial. Practice makes perfect, as these stages can be quite challenging, especially the later ones. Failing to collect enough rings means you'll have to re-collect all seven Special Rings in a zone to try again.
