End-of-Stage Bonuses

Upon completing any act, your performance is evaluated, and points are awarded based on several criteria:

Time Bonus: This is arguably the most significant contributor to your score. The faster you complete a stage, the higher this bonus will be. To maximize your time bonus, focus on maintaining momentum, utilizing character-specific abilities for speed, and knowing optimal routes. For example, as Sonic, continuously use the Boost action (press R) to maintain top speed, especially on long, straightaways or when traversing loops in stages like Leaf Forest.
Ring Bonus: At the end of each act, you receive points for every Ring you are holding. Each Ring is worth 100 points. While not as impactful as the Time Bonus, collecting Rings is still crucial, especially for surviving hits. Try to finish acts with at least 50-100 Rings to get a decent bonus. Remember, if you take damage, you lose all your Rings, so prioritize avoiding enemies and hazards.
Enemy Bonus: Defeating enemies also contributes to your score. Each standard Badnik destroyed typically grants 100 points. While you shouldn't go out of your way to destroy every single enemy if it slows you down, taking out enemies that are directly in your path or can be defeated quickly (e.g., with a well-timed Homing Attack) is a good strategy.
Item Box Bonus: Breaking Item Boxes provides a small point bonus, usually 50 points per box. This is a minor contribution, but it adds up. Always break any Item Boxes you encounter, especially those containing Rings or Shields.
