  • Cream the Rabbit: Cream and her Chao companion, Cheese, are the first characters you'll unlock.
    • How to Unlock: Complete Zone 1 (Leaf Forest) with Sonic. After defeating the boss of Leaf Forest, Cream will join your team and become available on the character select screen.

  • Knuckles the Echidna: The powerful guardian of the Master Emerald is the third character to join your adventure.
    • How to Unlock: Complete Zone 3 (Music Plant) with Sonic. After defeating the boss of Music Plant, Knuckles will be unlocked and available for play.
    • Abilities: Knuckles excels in exploration. His gliding ability allows him to traverse long horizontal distances and descend safely. More importantly, his wall-climbing skill opens up numerous alternative routes and hidden areas that are inaccessible to other characters, often leading to special items or shortcuts.

    • How to Unlock: To unlock Amy, you must first complete the entire game (defeat the final boss) with all four previously unlocked characters: Sonic, Cream, Tails, and Knuckles.
