Act 2 features more intricate anti-gravity sections and vertical exploration. Knuckles' ability to climb walls and glide over long gaps is invaluable, especially when gravity is reversed. Sonic as a partner provides a speed boost for clearing long stretches or for quickly dispatching enemies. You'll encounter many moving platforms and rotating gears that act as platforms; time your jumps carefully to avoid falling into the void.
There are sections with large, destructible blocks that hide pathways or items. Knuckles' punches can easily break these, often revealing shortcuts. Look for hidden passages behind large, glowing crystals that lead to bonus areas or 1-Ups. The act features several areas with multiple pathways, some requiring specific character abilities to access. The lower paths are often more dangerous, filled with powerful enemies or bottomless pits. The act ends with a series of ascending platforms and springs, leading to the goal ring. Precision and adaptability are crucial.
