Power-Up Monitors are scattered throughout each zone and provide temporary boosts or beneficial effects when broken. To activate a monitor, simply jump on it or hit it with an attack. Each monitor has a distinct icon indicating its effect.
- Invincibility Monitor: Grants temporary invincibility, making you immune to damage from enemies and most hazards. You can still drown or fall into bottomless pits. The effect lasts for a short duration, indicated by flashing colors.
- Speed Shoes Monitor: Significantly increases your character's speed for a limited time. This is excellent for speedruns and quickly traversing long sections of a level.
- 10-Ring Monitor: Instantly grants you 10 rings. These are useful for quickly accumulating rings for extra lives or for replenishing your ring count after taking damage.
- 1-Up Monitor: Grants you an extra life. These are often hidden in secret areas or placed strategically before challenging sections.
- Shield Monitor: Provides a temporary shield that protects you from one hit of damage. Unlike rings, the shield is not lost upon taking damage; it simply disappears. This is particularly useful in boss battles or areas with many projectiles.
Always try to break monitors when you see them, as their benefits can be crucial for survival and achieving better scores. Prioritize Invincibility and 1-Up monitors when available.
