Beyond rings and power-up monitors, there are a few other special items that play a crucial role in Sonic Advance 3, particularly for progression and unlocking the true ending.
- Chaos Emeralds: There are seven Chaos Emeralds hidden throughout the game. Each is obtained by successfully completing a Special Stage, which is accessed via a hidden Special Spring in Act 3 of the first six zones. Collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds is mandatory to unlock the final zone (Altar Emerald) and the true final boss battle, where Sonic transforms into Super Sonic. These are the most important collectibles in the game.
- Special Springs: These unique springs, often hidden, transport you to a Special Stage. They are identifiable by their distinct rainbow glow. Finding them requires exploration and often the use of specific character abilities.
- Goal Ring: The end-of-act marker. Touching it completes the act and saves your progress.
- Air Bubbles: Found exclusively in water-based levels (like Ocean Base). These bubbles replenish your oxygen meter when submerged. If your oxygen runs out, you'll start losing rings rapidly. Always prioritize reaching air bubbles when underwater.
Focus on finding the Special Springs in each Act 3 to ensure you collect all Chaos Emeralds. This will allow you to experience the full story and the ultimate challenge Sonic Advance 3 has to offer.
