Rings are the most fundamental item in Sonic Advance and serve multiple purposes. They act as your primary form of defense: if you take damage while holding rings, you will lose them all, but you won't lose a life. You can then quickly recollect some of the scattered rings before they disappear. If you take damage with 0 rings, you lose a life. Collecting 100 rings grants you an extra life. Rings also contribute to your overall score at the end of a stage. In Special Stages, rings are the currency you need to collect to earn a Chaos Emerald. Always prioritize collecting rings, especially before boss battles or challenging platforming sections. They are found everywhere, often in trails, hidden caches, or dropped by defeated enemies. Some rings are strategically placed to guide you through optimal paths or to tempt you into dangerous areas.
