Knuckles' story revolves around his quest to reassemble the shattered Master Emerald, which was broken by Chaos. His gameplay focuses on exploration and treasure hunting, utilizing his unique abilities to glide and climb walls. Each of his stages requires you to find three pieces of the Master Emerald, which are scattered throughout the level. Knuckles can glide by pressing and holding the jump button in mid-air, allowing him to cover large distances and reach elevated areas. He can also climb most vertical surfaces, opening up many hidden paths. The radar at the bottom of the screen is your most important tool, indicating the proximity and direction of the emerald pieces. The closer you are, the faster the radar beeps. His story often involves confrontations with Rouge the Bat, who is also after the emeralds.
