·Multi-source verified (39/39)

Metal Sonic returns as a formidable foe, and this time you'll be facing him as your custom Avatar. This battle emphasizes the use of your Wispon's primary and special abilities, as Metal Sonic is fast and has several defensive maneuvers. The arena is a long, linear path, requiring you to keep pace with him while dodging his attacks and finding openings.

Phase 1: Chase and Attack

  • Attacks: Metal Sonic will speed ahead, dropping mines, firing projectiles, and occasionally performing a spin attack.
  • Strategy:
    • Keep Up: Use your Avatar's boost and quick-step to stay close to Metal Sonic.
    • Dodge Hazards: Quick-step to avoid the mines he drops and the projectiles he fires.
    • Wispon Primary Attack: Use your Wispon's primary attack (R2/RT) to deal consistent damage whenever you're close enough. Ranged Wispons like Asteroid or Grenade can be particularly effective here.
    • Homing Attack: When he's briefly stunned or vulnerable, use a Homing Attack to close the distance and land a hit.
  • Vulnerability: After certain attacks or when he pauses to prepare a larger attack, he'll be briefly vulnerable to your Wispon and Homing Attacks.

Phase 2: Energy Shield & Counter-Attack

  • Attacks: As his health depletes, Metal Sonic will activate an energy shield, making him invulnerable to direct attacks. He'll also increase the frequency and intensity of his attacks.
  • Strategy:
    • Wispon Special Ability: This is where your Wispon's special ability (B/Circle) becomes crucial. Some Wispons, like the Lightning Wispon's chain attack, can bypass his shield or create openings. The Burst Wispon's shield can protect you while you wait for an opening.
    • Environmental Interaction: Look for environmental elements that can be used against him, such as springs that launch you into a Homing Attack opportunity.
    • Wait for Opening: The shield will eventually drop, or he'll perform an attack that leaves him exposed. Capitalize on these brief windows.
  • Vulnerability: His shield will drop periodically, or he'll be vulnerable after a powerful attack.

The key to defeating Metal Sonic is persistence and smart Wispon usage. Keep moving, dodge his attacks, and chip away at his health with your primary Wispon attack. When he shields up, use your special ability or wait for an opening. Your species ability can also provide a crucial advantage, such as the Cat's ring retention or the Rabbit's extended invincibility.

This high-speed pursuit on a linear path mirrors the intense boss encounters found in Sonic Rush, where maintaining momentum is critical to overcoming rapid-fire projectiles.

While this encounter relies on Wispon mechanics, it lacks the intricate 2D platforming and color power combinations that define the more robust boss battles found in Sonic Colors: Ultimate.
