Enemy Encyclopedia / Bestiary
Welcome to the definitive guide to Eggman's mechanical minions in Sonic Heroes! Understanding your enemies is key to mastering each stage, maximizing your Team Blast gauge, and achieving those coveted A ranks. This section details common enemy types, their attack patterns, weaknesses, and the best strategies for each team.
Common Badniks
These are the ubiquitous robotic foes you'll encounter across almost every stage. While individually weak, they can be dangerous in groups or when supporting stronger units.
E-1000 Series (Standard Ground Units)
- E-1000 (Red): The most basic enemy. They walk slowly and have a simple melee attack.
- Strategy (Speed Teams): A simple Homing Attack or Spin Dash will dispatch them instantly. Use them to chain attacks and maintain momentum.
- Strategy (Flight Teams): Amy's Hammer Attack or Cream's Chao Attack are effective. You can also lift them with Cream and throw them into other enemies.
- Strategy (Power Teams): Knuckles' Punch or Omega's Machine Gun are overkill but effective. Use them for quick crowd control.
- Location: Found in virtually every stage, especially early zones like Seaside Hill and Grand Metropolis.
- E-1000R (Blue): Similar to the E-1000 but equipped with a small shield that deflects frontal attacks.
- Strategy (Speed Teams): Attack from behind with a Homing Attack. Alternatively, use the Triangle Jump (Team Sonic) or Tornado Attack (Team Dark) to bypass their shield.
- Strategy (Flight Teams): Lift and throw them, or use a Team Chaotix formation attack like Espio's Shuriken.
- Strategy (Power Teams): A Power Formation attack (Knuckles' Fire Dunk, Omega's Chaos Inferno) will break their shield. Otherwise, use a heavy attack from the side or behind.
- Location: Common in stages like Ocean Palace, Power Plant, and Bullet Station.
- E-1000G (Green): These units carry small bombs and will attempt to throw them at your team.
- Strategy (Speed Teams): Homing Attack them before they throw their bomb. If they do throw it, quickly move out of the blast radius. You can also Homing Attack the thrown bomb to detonate it early.
- Strategy (Flight Teams): Lift them with Cream or Rouge and throw them into other enemies, or use their own bombs against them.
- Strategy (Power Teams): Charge a Power Formation attack to destroy them and their bomb simultaneously.
- Location: Frequently encountered in stages with varied terrain, such as Grand Metropolis and Frog Forest.
Airborne Assault Units
These enemies patrol the skies and often require a different approach than ground units.
- Egg Flapper: A small, propeller-driven robot that flies in simple patterns.
- Strategy (Speed Teams): Homing Attack them out of the air. Be mindful of their altitude.
- Strategy (Flight Teams): Easily taken down by any Flight character's aerial attack. Cream's Chao Attack is particularly effective for targeting multiple flappers.
- Strategy (Power Teams): Jump and use a Power character's aerial attack. Omega's Machine Gun can lock on and destroy them from a distance.
- Location: Abundant in open-air stages like Seaside Hill, Grand Metropolis, and Final Fortress.
- Egg Hawk: A larger, more durable flying enemy that fires projectiles.
- Strategy (Speed Teams): Wait for it to descend or use a Spring/Dash Panel to gain altitude for a Homing Attack. Dodge its projectiles.
- Strategy (Flight Teams): Your primary advantage here. Fly up to its level and use repeated aerial attacks. Cream's Chao Attack is excellent for dealing consistent damage.
- Strategy (Power Teams): Omega's Machine Gun is highly effective. Knuckles or Vector can jump and use their heavy attacks when it's lower.
- Location: Appears in later stages and boss arenas, such as Egg Fleet and Final Fortress.
Specialized Badniks
These enemies possess unique abilities or defenses that require specific tactics.
- Spinner: A spiked, rolling robot that can be difficult to attack directly.
- Strategy (Speed Teams): Wait for it to stop rolling, then use a Homing Attack. Do NOT Homing Attack while it's spinning, as you'll take damage.
- Strategy (Flight Teams): Lift and throw it, or use a Team Chaotix formation attack like Espio's Shuriken.
- Strategy (Power Teams): A Power Formation attack will destroy it regardless of its state. Otherwise, wait for it to stop spinning.
- Location: Common in stages with narrow pathways and environmental hazards, like Rail Canyon and Bullet Station.
- Bomb Egg: A stationary bomb that explodes after a short delay or when attacked.
- Strategy (All Teams): Attack it from a distance or quickly destroy it and retreat before it explodes. You can also use it to destroy other enemies or obstacles.
- Location: Often placed strategically to block paths or create traps in stages like Power Plant and Egg Fleet.
- Gun Hunter: A turret-like enemy that fires energy projectiles. Can be found on the ground or mounted on walls.
- Strategy (Speed Teams): Approach quickly with a Homing Attack or Spin Dash before it can fire multiple shots.
- Strategy (Flight Teams): Fly above it and use aerial attacks, or lift and throw it if it's on the ground.
- Strategy (Power Teams): Use a Power character's heavy attack to destroy it quickly. Omega's Machine Gun is perfect for wall-mounted versions.
- Location: Frequently seen in industrial and military-themed stages like Grand Metropolis, Power Plant, and Bullet Station.
Mini-Bosses & Larger Foes
These enemies are more resilient and often serve as mid-level challenges.
- Heavy Egg Robo: A large, heavily armored robot that moves slowly but packs a powerful punch.
- Strategy (Speed Teams): Focus on hitting its back or sides with repeated Homing Attacks. Its front armor is very strong. Use the Team Blast when available for massive damage.
- Strategy (Flight Teams): Use Cream's Chao Attack to chip away at its health, or lift and throw smaller enemies into it.
- Strategy (Power Teams): This is where Power teams shine. Use charged Power attacks or a Team Blast to break its armor quickly. Knuckles' Fire Dunk is particularly effective.
- Location: Encountered in various stages as a tougher enemy, such as Grand Metropolis and Egg Fleet.
- Egg Bishop: A flying fortress-like enemy that deploys smaller badniks and fires lasers.
- Strategy (Speed Teams): Focus on dodging its attacks and taking out the smaller badniks it deploys to build your Team Blast gauge. Once full, unleash your Team Blast.
- Strategy (Flight Teams): Fly up to its weak points (often glowing sections) and unleash a barrage of aerial attacks. Use Cream's Chao Attack for sustained damage.
- Strategy (Power Teams): While less agile, Power teams can still deal significant damage with well-timed jumps and heavy attacks, especially if you can reach its lower sections. Omega's Machine Gun is useful for clearing out deployed enemies.
- Location: Typically found in later, more challenging stages like Egg Fleet and Final Fortress.
Remember to always adapt your team's formation to the situation. Speed for quick traversal and single-target attacks, Flight for aerial combat and reaching high places, and Power for breaking through defenses and crowd control. Utilize your Team Blast whenever possible, especially against tougher enemies, to clear the screen and gain valuable rings!
