Mastering movement in Sonic Heroes goes beyond simply running and jumping. Utilizing advanced techniques can shave precious seconds off your time and help you navigate complex environments with ease.

  • Light Dash Chaining: When you see a trail of rings, use your Speed character's Light Dash (B button) to quickly traverse them. You can often chain multiple Light Dashes together for incredible speed boosts.
  • Homing Attack Chaining: Use your Speed character's Homing Attack on multiple enemies or springs in quick succession. This maintains momentum and can clear paths efficiently. Look for opportunities to bounce off enemies to reach higher areas.
  • Team Jump/Boost: While in Speed formation, pressing the jump button twice can sometimes perform a higher jump or a small boost. Experiment with this for reaching slightly elevated platforms.
  • Power Character Glide/Hover: Knuckles and Big can glide, and Omega can hover. Use these abilities to extend jumps, recover from falls, or cross small gaps that a Speed character might miss.
  • Fly Character Recovery: If you fall off a ledge, quickly switch to your Fly character and use their flight ability to recover and get back on track. This can save you a life.
  • Grind Rail Jumping: While on a grind rail, you can jump to switch to an adjacent rail or to avoid obstacles. A well-timed jump can also give you a slight speed boost.

Practice these techniques in earlier stages to build muscle memory. The fluidity of your movement will directly impact your ability to achieve 'A' ranks.
