Post-Game Content
Congratulations, hero! Completing the main story with any team is just the beginning in Sonic Heroes. The true challenge and the ultimate ending await those dedicated enough to master every aspect of the game. This section will guide you through unlocking the game's secret final boss, the Last Story, and achieving 100% completion.
Unlocking the Last Story
To access the game's true ending and face the final form of Metal Sonic, you must first collect all seven Chaos Emeralds. These powerful gems are scattered across the game's various stages and can only be obtained by completing special stages.
Chaos Emerald Acquisition Strategy:
- Complete All Team Stories: You must finish the main story mode with all four teams: Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose, and Team Chaotix. This will unlock all stages for each team and make Chaos Emeralds accessible in every stage.
-
Revisit Stages for Special Keys: After completing a team's story, replay stages to find the Special Key. Each stage (Seaside Hill, Grand Metropolis, Power Plant, BINGO Highway, Bullet Station, Lost Jungle, Hang Castle, Mystic Mansion, Final Fortress) contains one Special Key.
- Key Location Tip: Special Keys are often hidden off the main path, requiring careful exploration or specific team abilities to reach. Look for glowing rings or unusual platforms.
- Team Chaotix Advantage: Team Chaotix's unique mission objectives often lead them through different stage layouts, which can sometimes make finding keys easier or more challenging depending on the stage.
-
Enter the Special Stage: Once you collect a Special Key in a stage and reach the Goal Ring, you will be transported to a Special Stage. These are high-speed chase sequences where you must collect a set number of spheres while avoiding obstacles and outrunning a chasing Metal Sonic.
- Sphere Collection: Prioritize collecting as many spheres as possible. Hitting boost panels and maintaining speed is crucial.
- Avoiding Obstacles: Learn the patterns of the obstacles. Some require jumping, others require switching lanes.
- Emerald Location: The Chaos Emerald is always at the very end of the Special Stage. You must successfully navigate the entire stage and grab it before Metal Sonic catches you.
- Repeat for All Seven: There are seven Chaos Emeralds in total. You will need to find a Special Key and complete a Special Stage seven separate times across any of the teams to gather them all. The game tracks your collected Emeralds globally, not per team.
Once all seven Chaos Emeralds are in your possession, the "Last Story" option will appear on the main menu, allowing you to play the true final chapter of Sonic Heroes.
Achieving 100% Completion
Beyond the Last Story, true completionists will aim for 100% game completion. This involves several challenging objectives:
A-Ranking Every Stage:
To truly master Sonic Heroes, you must achieve an "A" rank on every single stage with every single team. This includes all 14 main stages (7 zones, each with 2 acts) for each of the four teams, plus the boss stages.
- A-Rank Criteria: An A-rank is awarded based on a combination of factors:
- Time: Finishing the stage quickly is paramount. Learn optimal routes and skip unnecessary detours.
- Rings: Collect as many rings as possible. A higher ring count contributes significantly to your score.
- Enemies Defeated: While not always the highest priority, defeating enemies efficiently can boost your score.
- Power Cores: Collecting Power Cores (the small yellow cubes) also adds to your score.
- Team-Specific Strategies:
- Team Sonic: Focus on speed and using Sonic's Homing Attack to chain through enemies and obstacles.
- Team Dark: Utilize Shadow's Chaos abilities for quick enemy disposal and Rouge's gliding for shortcuts.
- Team Rose: Amy's Hammer Attack is excellent for clearing groups of enemies, and Cream's flight can bypass certain platforming sections.
- Team Chaotix: Their unique mission objectives mean A-ranking often involves efficient item collection or enemy defeat within a time limit, rather than just reaching the goal quickly. Consult the "Team Chaotix Guide" by SHADOW_JACKY for specific strategies on their stages.
- Practice and Route Optimization: Repeated play-throughs are essential. Experiment with different team formations and attack combinations to find the fastest and most efficient way to clear each section.
Boss Battle Mastery:
Achieving A-ranks on boss battles also contributes to your overall completion. This typically involves defeating the boss quickly and taking minimal damage.
- Exploit Weaknesses: Each boss has specific attack patterns and weaknesses. Learn them to maximize damage output and minimize time spent.
- Power-Ups: Utilize available Power-Ups (Speed, Power, Fly) strategically during boss encounters.
By diligently pursuing all Chaos Emeralds, completing the Last Story, and achieving an A-rank on every stage with every team, you will have truly conquered Sonic Heroes!
