  • Rings: Displayed at the top left of the screen. Collecting rings is your primary form of defense; as long as you have at least one ring, you will not lose a life when hit by an enemy or hazard. Instead, you will scatter your rings. Collect as many as you can after being hit to recover.
  • Time: Located at the top center. This tracks how long you've been in the current Act. While there's no strict time limit for most levels, completing acts quickly contributes to a higher score.
  • Score: Positioned at the top right. Your score increases by collecting rings, defeating enemies, and completing acts quickly. Achieving high scores can unlock extra lives.
  • Lives: Usually represented by character icons at the bottom left. This indicates how many attempts you have left. Losing all rings and getting hit, or falling into a bottomless pit, results in losing a life.
  • Chaos Emeralds (Special Stages): During Special Stages, the HUD will display the number of Chaos Emeralds you've collected and the current number of blue spheres you need to collect to earn the Emerald.

While the HUD in Sonic & Knuckles focuses on the basics of survival, Sonic Forces expands this interface to include a dedicated boost gauge for high-speed traversal.

While the classic ring counter remains a series staple, Sonic Frontiers evolves this mechanic by tying the total ring count directly to Sonic’s maximum speed capacity.
