Monitors are ubiquitous throughout every zone, appearing as small, breakable boxes with an icon indicating their contents. Breaking them (by jumping on them or rolling into them) releases the power-up. Always be on the lookout for monitors, as they can provide crucial advantages. Some are hidden, requiring exploration or specific character abilities to reach.
- Ring Monitor: Grants 10 rings. Always a welcome sight, especially if you've recently been hit.
- 1-Up Monitor: Grants an extra life. Invaluable for extending your play session.
- Speed Shoes Monitor: Temporarily increases your character's speed to maximum. Great for clearing long stretches of level quickly or escaping hazards.
- Invincibility Monitor: Grants temporary invincibility, making you immune to all damage (except crushing, drowning, or falling). Use this to blast through dangerous enemy formations or boss attacks.
- Shield Monitor: Provides a basic shield that protects you from one hit. After taking a hit, the shield disappears.
