Rings:

  • Health System: Rings act as your primary form of defense. As long as you have at least one ring, taking damage will cause you to scatter all your rings, but you will not lose a life. You have a brief window to recollect some of your scattered rings.
  • Life Loss: If you take damage with zero rings, you will lose a life.
  • Score: Every ring collected contributes to your overall score for the act.
  • Super Form: Collecting 50 rings and having all 7 Chaos Emeralds allows you to transform into your Super Form (Sonic, Super Tails, Super Knuckles, Super Amy) by pressing the jump button twice in mid-air. This grants temporary invincibility and enhanced abilities.

Star Posts (Checkpoints):

  • Respawn Point: Hitting a Star Post (a spinning pole with a star on top) will set it as your new respawn point. If you lose a life, you will restart from the last Star Post you touched, rather than the beginning of the act.
  • Bonus Stage Access: If you pass a Star Post with 50 or more rings, a portal will appear above it, allowing you to enter a Bonus Stage for extra rings or items. This is a great way to stock up on resources.

Always prioritize collecting rings and hitting Star Posts. Rings are your lifeline, and Star Posts save you from having to replay large sections of a level after losing a life. The Bonus Stage access from Star Posts is a valuable opportunity for extra resources.
