Unlockables
Sonic Superstars offers several exciting unlockables that enhance your gameplay experience, from new customization options to hidden modes. This detailed guide will walk you through how to acquire every secret the game has to offer.
Battle Mode Shop Parts
The Battle Mode allows you to customize your Metal Fighter with various parts. These parts are purchased using the Rings you collect during gameplay. The shop inventory rotates, and certain parts can "sell out" if you purchase enough of them.
- Acquiring Parts: To unlock new parts for purchase, you generally need to progress through the main story mode and collect a significant number of Rings. Some parts may also become available after achieving specific milestones in Battle Mode itself.
- Purchasing Strategy:
- Focus on collecting as many Rings as possible in both Story Mode and Battle Mode. Replaying levels where you can quickly gather Rings is an effective strategy.
- Check the Battle Mode Shop frequently. New items appear regularly.
- Be aware that if you buy up to 10 of a specific part, that part will sell out from the shop. This means you have a limited stock of each unique part, so choose wisely if you're aiming for a particular aesthetic for multiple Metal Fighters.
- Saving Customizations: While you can own many parts, you are typically limited to saving a certain number of customized Metal Fighters (often around 5). This encourages experimentation with different loadouts and appearances.
Debug Menu (PC Specific)
For PC players, a hidden Debug Menu can be accessed, providing access to features like a Sound Test and Stage Select. This is a fantastic tool for replaying specific sections or just enjoying the game's music.
- Prerequisite: You must first complete the entire Story Mode of the game. The Debug Menu will not be accessible until this condition is met.
- Accessing the Menu:
- Launch Sonic Superstars on your PC.
- Navigate to the Main Menu.
- Using an Xbox-style controller, input the following button combination: X, X, Y, Y, X, X, X, X.
- If entered correctly, the Debug Menu option will appear, allowing you to select from its various functions.
- Available Options: Within the Debug Menu, you can typically find:
- Sound Test: Listen to all the game's music and sound effects.
- Stage Select: Jump to any stage in the game, perfect for practicing difficult sections or finding missed collectibles.
Chaos Emerald Powers & Super Sonic
While not strictly "unlockables" in the traditional sense, the Chaos Emeralds and their associated powers are crucial to unlocking the full potential of your characters and achieving the Super Sonic transformation.
- Chaos Emerald Locations: Each of the seven Chaos Emeralds is hidden within special stages, typically accessed by finding large rings within the main levels. Refer to our "Chaos Emerald Locations" guide for specific walkthroughs on how to find each one.
- Emerald Powers: Collecting each Chaos Emerald unlocks a unique Emerald Power, which can be activated during gameplay. These powers provide new abilities that can help with platforming, combat, or exploration. Experiment with each one to understand their utility.
- Super Sonic Transformation: Once you have collected all seven Chaos Emeralds, you will unlock the ability to transform into Super Sonic (or Super forms for other characters) when you have at least 50 Rings. This transformation grants invincibility, increased speed, and enhanced abilities, making certain challenges much easier.
