Advanced Movement Techniques
  • Momentum Preservation: The core of Sonic gameplay. Always aim to land on slopes, use springs, and hit speed boosters to maintain your momentum. Avoid coming to a complete stop whenever possible.
  • Spin Dash Chaining: After performing a Spin Dash, if you immediately press down and jump again, you can charge another Spin Dash without losing much speed. This is crucial for maintaining high velocity through flat sections.
  • Drop Dash Mastery: The Drop Dash (hold jump in mid-air) is essential for landing from jumps or springs and immediately bursting forward with speed. Practice timing it perfectly as you land.
  • Homing Attack Chains: With Sonic, you can chain Homing Attacks between multiple enemies or springs to cross large gaps or clear groups of Badniks without touching the ground. Look for opportunities to bounce between targets.
  • Character-Specific Momentum:
    • Tails: Learn to feather his flight (tap jump) to conserve his flight meter and extend his air time. Use his flight to bypass slow-down sections.
    • Knuckles: Master the glide-climb combination. Glide into a wall, then immediately climb to reach higher ledges. Use his glide to quickly descend slopes without losing speed.
    • Amy: Her double jump can be used for precise adjustments in mid-air. Her hammer attack can also be used to bounce off certain surfaces for a small vertical boost, similar to a spring.
  • Slope Physics: Understand how slopes work. Rolling down a steep slope with a Spin Attack will build immense speed. Rolling up a slope will slow you down, so consider jumping or using a Drop Dash at the peak.

Practice these techniques in earlier zones to build muscle memory. They are vital for achieving high scores and finding optimal routes.
