Star Posts serve as checkpoints within each act of a zone. Touching a Star Post will save your progress up to that point, meaning if you lose a life, you will restart from the last Star Post you touched instead of the beginning of the act. More importantly, Star Posts are your gateway to Special Stages.
Star Post Mechanics:
- Checkpoint: Activates a save point.
- Special Stage Entry: If you pass a Star Post with 50 or more rings, a ring of stars will appear above it. Jumping into this ring will transport you to a Special Stage.
Strategy: Always try to hit Star Posts as you encounter them, even if you don't have 50 rings. This ensures you won't have to replay large sections of a level if you lose a life. If you have 50+ rings, strongly consider entering the Special Stage to work towards collecting Chaos Emeralds. If you fail a Special Stage, you can still use the Star Post as a checkpoint for the main level.
