The Final Showdown: Launch Base Zone Act 2

Your journey culminates in the Launch Base Zone Act 2, where you face off against Robotnik's most formidable machinery. There are two distinct endings depending on your collection of the powerful Chaos Emeralds.

Ending 1: Standard Victory (No Chaos Emeralds or Incomplete Set)

• Boss Battle: Big Arm
  • Strategy: This massive robotic arm is a test of timing. Robotnik pilots it from above, attempting to crush you. Wait for the arm to slam down, then quickly jump and perform a Spin Attack on the cockpit. Be wary of the projectiles it fires after each attack. You'll need approximately 8 hits to dismantle it.
  • Outcome: Upon defeating Big Arm, Robotnik's machine explodes, and he makes a hasty retreat. Sonic (or Tails) stands victorious as the Launch Base crumbles around him. The credits roll, showing scenes from the various zones you've conquered.
  • Post-Credits: The game loops back to the title screen. There is no additional content or "true" ending without the Chaos Emeralds.

Ending 2: True Victory (All 7 Chaos Emeralds Collected)

To achieve the true ending, you must have collected all 7 Chaos Emeralds by successfully completing every Special Stage. These stages are accessed by jumping into the giant rings hidden throughout the zones. If you've managed this impressive feat, your final encounter will be different.

• Boss Battle: Big Arm (Initial Encounter)
  • Strategy: The battle against Big Arm proceeds as described above. Defeat it with 8 hits.
• Post-Big Arm Event: The Death Egg's Escape
  • After destroying Big Arm, the Death Egg, Robotnik's ultimate weapon, begins to lift off. Sonic, empowered by the Chaos Emeralds, transforms into Super Sonic!
• Final Boss Battle: Death Egg Robot
  • Location: This battle takes place atop the ascending Death Egg.
  • Strategy: The Death Egg Robot has two phases:
    1. Phase 1 (Fist Attacks): The robot will extend its arms and attempt to punch you. Dodge these attacks and wait for its fists to retract. When they do, jump and hit the red jewel on its chest. After a few hits, it will begin to fire missiles.
    2. Phase 2 (Missile Barrage): The robot will now fire a volley of homing missiles. Continue to dodge and strike the red jewel whenever an opening appears. The Super Sonic transformation grants you invincibility and a higher jump, making this battle significantly easier, but you still need to be precise.
  • Outcome: With the Death Egg Robot destroyed, the Death Egg itself explodes in a spectacular fashion. Super Sonic flies triumphantly through the sky, and the true credits roll, showcasing a more complete narrative conclusion.
  • Post-Credits: The game returns to the title screen. While there isn't "new game plus" content in the traditional sense for the arcade version, achieving this ending unlocks a sense of complete mastery over the game.

Post-Game Challenges & Replayability

While Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Arcade) doesn't feature extensive post-game modes like modern titles, its design encourages replayability and mastery:
