  • Rings: Displayed in the top-left corner. Collecting rings is vital; as long as you have at least one ring, you won't lose a life when hit by an enemy or hazard. Instead, you'll scatter your rings. Collect as many as you can!
  • Time: Located in the top-center. This tracks how long you've been in the current Act. While there's no strict time limit for most levels, completing an Act under 10 minutes awards a bonus. Exceeding 10 minutes will result in a Time Over and loss of a life.
  • Score: Shown in the top-right. Your score increases by collecting rings, defeating enemies, and completing Acts quickly. High scores contribute to extra lives.
  • Lives: Represented by character icons in the bottom-left. This indicates how many attempts you have left. Collecting 100 rings or finding a 1-Up monitor will grant an extra life.
  • Chaos Emeralds: If you've collected any, these will be displayed in the bottom-right corner during Special Stages.

Monitoring your rings is the most critical aspect of the HUD, as it directly impacts your survivability. Always prioritize collecting rings, especially before encountering new enemies or tricky platforming sections.
