Rings are the most fundamental and ubiquitous item in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. They serve as both your health and a currency for extra lives.
Functionality:
- Protection: As long as you have at least one ring, you will not lose a life when hit by an enemy or hazard. Instead, you will scatter your rings, giving you a brief moment to recollect some of them.
- Extra Lives: Collecting 100 rings will grant you an extra life. This is a crucial way to accumulate lives throughout the game.
- Super Sonic Transformation: If you have collected all seven Chaos Emeralds, collecting 50 rings will allow Sonic to transform into Super Sonic, granting invincibility and increased speed.
Strategy:
Always prioritize collecting rings. In dangerous sections, try to have a high ring count as a buffer against damage. After taking a hit, quickly try to recollect as many scattered rings as possible, as they disappear after a short time. Rings are also essential for accessing Bonus Stages, so aim to pass Star Posts with at least 50 rings.
