Gems are the primary currency in Spyro 2 and are essential for progression, as Moneybags will demand them to open new areas and teach Spyro new abilities. There are a total of 10,000 gems scattered throughout Avalar.

- Where to Find Them: Gems are found everywhere! They drop from defeated enemies, are hidden in breakable baskets and chests, and are often scattered freely in the environment.
- Hidden Gems: Always look behind waterfalls, under ledges, in small caves, and in areas that seem difficult to reach. Use Spyro's first-person view (Triangle) to scan the environment for glinting gems.
- Power-ups: Sometimes, a 'Supercharge' or 'Superflame' power-up will be required to break open large, metal chests that contain a significant amount of gems. revisit levels once you've acquired these abilities.
- Moneybags: Moneybags will often block paths or offer new abilities for a price. Paying him is necessary to advance the story and unlock new areas.
- Gem Finder: Once you've completed the game and collected all 10,000 gems, a special 'Gem Finder' ability will be unlocked, which causes Sparx to point towards any remaining gems in a level. This is incredibly useful for achieving 100% completion.
Don't leave a level until Sparx points to an empty area, indicating all gems have been collected. Revisit levels if you're short on gems for Moneybags.
