Terrace Village: A Comprehensive Guide

Welcome to Terrace Village, a vibrant and vertically-oriented realm in the Artisans Homeworld. This level challenges your platforming prowess with its multi-layered design, requiring keen observation and precise glides. Prepare to face new enemy types and master the Supercharge ability to uncover all its secrets.

Level Overview

  • Gem Count: 400 (Previously listed as 600, this has been corrected.)
  • Dragons to Rescue: 2 (Claude, Cyprin)
  • Egg Thieves: 0
  • Key Features: Multi-layered architecture, Supercharge power-up, challenging glide sections, hidden passages.

Enemies Encountered

Terrace Village introduces a couple of new adversaries you'll need to contend with:

  • Club-Wielding Gnorcs: These larger Gnorcs patrol the main pathways. They have a slow, predictable swing with their clubs. A single Flame attack is usually enough to dispatch them. Be careful not to get too close if they're mid-swing.
  • Small, Fast Gnorcs: These agile creatures dart around quickly, often in groups. They pose less of a direct threat but can be annoying to chase down. A well-aimed Flame or Charge attack will take them out.
  • Armored Gnorcs: While not unique to this level, you'll find a few of these. Remember, they are immune to your Flame attack. You must use a Charge attack to defeat them.

Full Walkthrough & Gem Collection Strategy

Terrace Village is best tackled systematically, layer by layer, to ensure you don't miss any gems or hidden areas. We'll start from the beginning and work our way up.

  1. Initial Area & First Dragon (Claude):

Upon entering, you'll find yourself on a grassy terrace. Immediately to your left, you'll spot some gems. Collect them. Proceed forward, defeating any Club-Wielding Gnorcs in your path. You'll quickly come across Dragon Claude, encased in crystal. Free him to receive valuable advice.

Claude's Message: "Watch out for those armored Gnorcs, Spyro. Your flame won't hurt them, but a good charge will!"

After freeing Claude, explore the immediate surrounding area. There's a small pond with a few gems. Look for ledges and small alcoves around this starting platform, as they often hide a few extra gems.

  2. Ascending the First Terrace:

Follow the main path upwards. You'll encounter more Club-Wielding Gnorcs and some of the smaller, faster variants. Keep an eye out for gem trails leading off the main path onto smaller platforms or behind structures. There's often a small waterfall near the beginning; check behind it for a hidden alcove with gems.

Action: Defeat all enemies, collect all visible gems on the main path and surrounding ledges. check under any small bridges you cross.

  3. The Supercharge Ramp & Second Dragon (Cyprin):

As you continue to ascend, you'll reach a section with a long, curved ramp. This is your first encounter with a Supercharge power-up in this level. The ramp will glow blue, indicating the Supercharge is active. Use this to gain immense speed and break through armored obstacles or reach distant platforms.

    Step-by-step Supercharge sequence:

    1. Charge down the ramp, maintaining your speed.
    2. At the end of the ramp, you'll see a gap. Jump across, maintaining your Supercharge momentum.
    3. You'll land on a platform with Dragon Cyprin. Free him!

Cyprin's Message: "The Supercharge ability is key to reaching new areas, Spyro. Use it wisely!"

After freeing Cyprin, collect the gems around his platform. There might be a few on the edges or behind him.

  4. Reaching Higher Platforms with Supercharge:

From Cyprin's platform, look around. You'll notice a series of higher platforms that seem unreachable by a normal jump or glide. This is where the Supercharge truly shines.

Strategy: Return to the Supercharge ramp. This time, after hitting the ramp and gaining speed, instead of jumping straight across to Cyprin's platform, aim for the higher ledges to the side. You'll need to practice your timing and trajectory. The goal is to hit the ramp, gain speed, and then jump/glide towards the highest accessible platforms. These often contain significant gem clusters.

Common Pitfall: Missing the jump and falling into the water. If this happens, you'll have to swim back to the starting point of the Supercharge ramp and try again. Don't get discouraged!

  5. Exploring the Central Structure & Hidden Areas:

The level is built around a central, multi-tiered structure. Once you've reached the highest platforms using the Supercharge, you can often glide down to different sections of this central building. Look for:

    • Open doorways: These lead to interior rooms with gems and sometimes enemies.
    • Balconies and ledges: Often accessible by gliding from higher points.
    • Hidden passages: Always check behind waterfalls, under arches, and in shadowy corners. Terrace Village is particularly good at hiding gems in these spots. One notable hidden area is often found by gliding from a high point towards a seemingly inaccessible ledge behind the main central building.

Action: Systematically explore every accessible platform, balcony, and interior room. Use your Flame attack on all baskets and chests to reveal gems. Charge any armored Gnorcs you encounter.

  6. Final Gem Sweep:

Once you believe you've collected most of the gems, do a final sweep. Start from the highest point you can reach and slowly glide down, checking every ledge and corner. Pay special attention to:

    • Water bodies: Swim through any ponds or streams; gems are often at the bottom.
    • Edges of the map: Sometimes a few gems are placed precariously close to the level boundaries.
    • Areas near Dragon platforms: Double-check around where you freed Claude and Cyprin.
    • Supercharge jump landing zones: The areas you land on after a successful Supercharge jump often have gems scattered around.

Item Checklist

Ensure you've collected everything before leaving Terrace Village:

  • Gems: 400/400
  • Dragons: 2/2 (Claude, Cyprin)

Tips for Success

  • Master the Glide: Terrace Village demands precise gliding. Practice your glides, especially after a Supercharge, to reach distant platforms.
  • Look Up and Down: This level is very vertical. Always check above and below your current position for hidden ledges or pathways.
  • use Supercharge Fully: Don't just use the Supercharge to free Cyprin. Experiment with different jump points and trajectories from the ramp to access all the high-up areas.
  • Patience with Water: Falling into the water can be frustrating as it often resets your position. Take your time with tricky jumps and glides.
