Peak 1: Happiness
The first peak introduces you to the core mechanics and a taste of the mountain's diverse terrain. Focus on nailing the basics and exploring the routes.
Race Events
- Happiness (Race)
- Objective: Finish 1st.
- Strategy: This is your introductory race. Focus on maintaining speed, hitting boost gates, and avoiding major collisions. Don't be afraid to cut corners where possible, especially on wide turns.
- Key Section: The initial wide-open section allows for early boosting. Look for the series of small jumps near the end to chain some quick tricks for extra boost.
- Snow Jam (Race)
- Objective: Finish 1st.
- Strategy: Snow Jam introduces more varied terrain. Pay attention to the banking turns and use them to your advantage to maintain momentum.
- Key Section: There's a shortcut through a small cave about halfway down. It's risky but can shave off crucial seconds if executed perfectly.
Freestyle Events
- Happiness (Freestyle)
- Objective: Achieve Gold Medal score.
- Strategy: Focus on chaining together smaller tricks into combos. The key here is consistency and landing cleanly. Don't go for huge Uber Tricks if you can't land them reliably yet.
- Key Features: Utilize the numerous small kickers and rails scattered throughout the course. The large quarterpipe near the end is excellent for a high-scoring Uber Trick if you have enough boost.
- Snow Jam (Freestyle)
- Objective: Achieve Gold Medal score.
- Strategy: This course offers more opportunities for grinding. Look for long rails and ledges to string together extended grind combos. Integrate grabs and flips off jumps between grind sections.
- Key Features: The long, winding rail section after the initial drop is prime for a massive combo. There's also a hidden jump off to the left about two-thirds of the way down that leads to a short, high rail.
Big Air Events
- Happiness (Big Air)
- Objective: Achieve Gold Medal score.
- Strategy: The Big Air events are all about maximizing airtime and executing high-scoring Uber Tricks. Build up your boost meter on the approach and hit the jump with maximum speed.
- Key Feature: The main jump is massive. Aim for a perfect launch, hold your Uber Trick for as long as possible, and land cleanly. incorporate a grab or flip into your Uber Trick for even more points.
Peak 2: Metro City
Metro City ramps up the challenge with more complex courses, tighter turns, and more environmental hazards. Precision and quick reflexes are paramount here.
Race Events
- Metro City (Race)
- Objective: Finish 1st.
- Strategy: This course features many urban elements. Grind rails to maintain speed through sections where you might otherwise lose momentum. Watch out for obstacles like lampposts and buildings.
- Key Section: The winding street section with multiple grindable ledges is crucial. Master the transitions between grinding and boarding to stay ahead.
- Perfection (Race)
- Objective: Finish 1st.
- Strategy: Perfection lives up to its name, demanding near-flawless execution. There are several tight turns and narrow passages. Use the "tuck" maneuver (holding down the trick button without inputting a trick) to gain speed on straightaways.
- Key Shortcut: After a sharp left turn about halfway, look for a small gap in a fence on the right. This leads to a very narrow, but fast, shortcut through a construction site.
Freestyle Events
- Metro City (Freestyle)
- Objective: Achieve Gold Medal score.
- Strategy: This course is a grind-heavy paradise. Look for opportunities to link multiple rails and ledges into extended combos. The urban environment provides plenty of unique trick opportunities.
- Key Features: The long, elevated train tracks are perfect for massive grind combos. Also, experiment with wall rides on the sides of buildings for extra style points.
- Perfection (Freestyle)
- Objective: Achieve Gold Medal score.
- Strategy: Perfection's freestyle course demands a blend of air tricks and precise grinding. The jumps are often followed by grindable surfaces, so plan your combos accordingly.
- Key Features: The series of interconnected ramps and rails near the start allows for intricate combo lines. There's also a large jump over a gap that can be used for a high-scoring Uber Trick.
Big Air Events
- Metro City (Big Air)
- Objective: Achieve Gold Medal score.
- Strategy: The Metro City Big Air jump often has a slightly angled approach. Adjust your trajectory to hit the sweet spot for maximum height and distance.
- Key Feature: The jump itself is quite wide, allowing for some flexibility in your approach. Focus on a powerful Uber Trick and a clean landing.
Peak 3: Peak X
Peak X is the ultimate test of your SSX 3 skills. These events are designed to push you to your limits, featuring extreme terrain, challenging layouts, and fierce competition.
Race Events
- Peak X (Race)
- Objective: Finish 1st.
- Strategy: This is the most demanding race in the game. Expect steep drops, treacherous ice patches, and multiple paths. Prioritize speed and control. Use the "tuck" on descents and be ready to adjust your line quickly.
- Key Shortcut: There's a very narrow, high-risk, high-reward shortcut through an ice cave after the initial steep drop. It requires precise steering but can save significant time.
- Untamed (Race)
- Objective: Finish 1st.
- Strategy: Untamed lives up to its name with wild, unpredictable terrain. You'll encounter deep powder, rocky sections, and massive natural jumps. Focus on maintaining a consistent line and using the natural features for boost.
- Key Section: The section with multiple large moguls and natural kickers is crucial. Use these to chain quick tricks for boost, but be careful not to lose control.
Freestyle Events
- Peak X (Freestyle)
- Objective: Achieve Gold Medal score.
- Strategy: Peak X freestyle demands mastery of all trick types. You'll find massive jumps, long grind opportunities, and plenty of natural features to exploit. Aim for huge Uber Trick combos off the biggest jumps.
- Key Features: The massive natural half-pipe section is perfect for chaining multiple Uber Tricks. Also, look for the hidden rail line along the cliff edge for a high-scoring grind.
- Untamed (Freestyle)
- Objective: Achieve Gold Medal score.
- Strategy: Untamed freestyle is about using the raw power of the mountain. Focus on big air off natural kickers and creative lines through the powder. Don't be afraid to experiment with wall rides on rock faces.
- Key Features: The series of large, natural jumps near the end of the course offers the best opportunities for massive Uber Trick combos. Ensure you have plenty of boost for these.
Big Air Events
- Peak X (Big Air)
- Objective: Achieve Gold Medal score.
- Strategy: The Peak X Big Air jump is the largest and most challenging. You'll need maximum speed and a perfect launch to achieve the highest scores. Conserve your boost for the approach.
- Key Feature: The sheer size of the jump allows for extended Uber Trick combinations. Aim for a perfect launch and hold your Uber Trick for the entire duration of your airtime, landing cleanly for the bonus.
