Peak 1: Metro-City (Freestyle)

Welcome to Metro-City, your first foray into the exhilarating world of Freestyle events on Peak 1! This course is a fantastic introduction to chaining tricks, grinding rails, and racking up those all-important points. Mastering Metro-City's Freestyle layout will lay a strong foundation for your SSX 3 career.

Initial Descent & Grind Combo

  • From the start, immediately aim for the large, central ramp directly ahead. Use this to launch into a grab trick (e.g., a Mute Grab or Indy Grab) to start building your trick meter.
  • As you land, veer slightly left to hit the first set of grind rails. You'll want to chain these together. Perform a Board Slide or Nose Slide on the first rail.
  • Just before the end of the first rail, jump and aim for the next connected rail. Try to transition into a different grind (e.g., a 50-50 or Tail Slide) for bonus points.
  • Continue this grind chain for as long as possible, utilizing the small gaps between rails to perform quick aerial tricks (like a Shifty or Stalefish) to maintain momentum and multiply your score.

Mid-Course Mayhem: The Plaza & Quarter Pipes

  • After the initial grind section, you'll enter a wider plaza area. This is prime real estate for aerial tricks. Look for the numerous quarter pipes lining the sides.
  • Hit the quarter pipes at an angle to launch high into the air. While airborne, execute complex grab tricks and spins. Aim for a Method Grab 720 or a Japan Air 540 to maximize your score.
  • Strategy Tip: incorporate flips (like a Backflip or Frontflip) when you have enough air time. Combining flips with grabs and spins is key to huge scores.
  • Keep an eye out for the smaller, more subtle ramps and ledges within the plaza. These can be used for quick, low-to-the-ground tricks and short grinds to keep your combo alive between major air opportunities.

Final Stretch: The Bridge & Big Air

  • As you approach the end of the course, you'll encounter a large bridge structure. This is your final opportunity for massive air and a high-scoring combo.
  • There are several ramps leading up to and over the bridge. The most prominent is the central ramp that launches you directly over the main span. Hit this with full boost for maximum height.
  • While soaring over the bridge, unleash your biggest tricks. A Double Rodeo 900 or a Triple Cork 1080, combined with a signature grab, can net you thousands of points.
  • Item Location: Look for a hidden boost gate just off to the side of the main bridge ramp, often slightly elevated or behind a small obstacle. Hitting this will give you the extra speed needed for truly epic air.
  • After landing from the bridge, there are usually a few smaller ramps and grindable ledges before the finish line. Use these to squeeze in a final short combo or a quick grab trick to seal your score.

General Freestyle Tips for Metro-City:

  • Combo is King: Always strive to link tricks together. Grinds into jumps, jumps into other jumps, and quick ground tricks between major features. The combo multiplier is your best friend.
  • Boost Management: Use your boost strategically. Save it for big ramps and launches to gain maximum air, or use short bursts to connect grind rails or reach distant features.
  • Experiment with Grabs: Don't stick to just one or two grabs. Different grabs offer different point values and can be combined with spins and flips for varied scoring.
  • Look for the Lines: Metro-City has many hidden lines and alternative paths. Explore the edges of the course for unique grind opportunities and smaller ramps that can help extend your combos.
