Beyond basic grabs and spins, SSX 3 offers a deep trick system. Mastering these advanced techniques is key to high scores:
- Tweak Grabs: While holding a grab, press the Square/X button (or move the Right Analog Stick in a different direction) to 'tweak' the grab. This adds significant points and style. Hold the tweak for longer for even more points.
- Uber Trick Combos: Don't just do one Uber Trick. Try to land an Uber Trick, then immediately jump into another one, or link it with a grind. The combo multiplier will skyrocket.
- Manuals/Nose/Tail Presses: While not as prominent as in other games, you can briefly balance on your board's nose or tail on flat ground by gently pushing the Left Analog Stick forward or back. This can sometimes link short combos.
- Grind Transitions: Learn to jump from one rail to another, or from a rail into a jump. Seamless transitions keep your combo alive and increase your score.
- Perfect Landings: Always aim for a perfect landing (green flash) by releasing your trick input just before hitting the ground. This gives you a boost bonus and prevents bails.
Practice these techniques in Freeride mode on large jumps and rail sections to get a feel for their timing and execution.
