Secrets & Unlockables
SSX 3 is packed with hidden gems, from secret characters to powerful boards and even a few surprising gameplay modifiers. Unlocking everything requires dedication, skill, and a keen eye for detail. This section will guide you through acquiring all the game's elusive content, enhancing your SSX 3 experience.
Unlocking Characters
Beyond the initial roster, several legendary riders can be added to your team. Each requires specific achievements within the game's various modes.
- Psymon Stark: To unlock the enigmatic Psymon, you must achieve Gold in all events on Peak 1. This includes all Race, Slopestyle, and Big Air events. His aggressive style and unique tricks make him a formidable competitor.
- Brodi: Brodi, the master of speed, becomes available after earning Gold in all events on Peak 2. Prepare for some intense races and precise slopestyle runs to add him to your roster.
- Allegra: The stylish Allegra is unlocked by achieving Gold in all events on Peak 3. This is the ultimate test of your SSX 3 skills, demanding mastery of all event types across the entire mountain.
- Slick: This hidden character is a bit more obscure. To unlock Slick, you need to win the "Uber Challenge" on Peak 3. This isn't a standard event; it's a special challenge that appears after you've completed all other events on Peak 3 and achieved Gold in them. Keep an eye out for its appearance on the event selection screen.
Hidden Boards & Gear
New boards and gear not only look cool but can also significantly impact your performance. Many are tied to specific accomplishments or found in unexpected places.
- Uber Boards: Each character has a unique "Uber Board" that can be unlocked. To get a character's Uber Board, you must complete all their personal challenges and achieve Gold in every event they participate in. These boards often have enhanced stats, particularly in speed and trick potential.
- Bonus Boards (e.g., "The Fridge"): Several novelty boards exist. For example, "The Fridge" can be unlocked by achieving a specific high score in a Big Air event on Peak 1, usually exceeding 50,000 points in a single run. Experiment with different Big Air events and focus on chaining Uber tricks.
- Custom Gear: While not strictly "hidden," unlocking all custom gear options for your characters requires accumulating a significant amount of in-game cash. Participate in as many events as possible, especially those with high cash rewards, and explore the shop frequently.
Secret Locations & Shortcuts
The mountain is vast, and many areas are not immediately obvious. Exploring can lead to new paths and even secret collectibles.
- Hidden Areas in Freeride: During Freeride mode, pay close attention to the edges of the main paths. Often, small gaps in fences, narrow rock passages, or seemingly impassable cliffs can lead to hidden areas. These often contain collectible "Snowflakes" or offer unique vantage points.
- Event Shortcuts: Many race and slopestyle events have hidden shortcuts that can shave precious seconds off your time or provide better trick opportunities.
- Peak 1 Race Shortcuts: On "Happiness," look for a break in the trees on the right side after the first major jump. This leads to a narrow, fast path.
- Peak 2 Slopestyle Shortcuts: On "Ruthless," after the large half-pipe section, there's a small, elevated rail on the left that can be grinded to bypass a slower section.
Gameplay Modifiers & Cheats
While SSX 3 doesn't feature traditional cheat codes in the same vein as older titles, there are some unlockable gameplay modifiers that can change how you experience the game.
- Big Head Mode: This humorous visual modifier is unlocked by achieving Gold in all "Freeride Challenges" across all three peaks. These challenges involve finding specific collectibles or performing certain tricks in Freeride mode.
- Mirror Mode: To unlock Mirror Mode, which flips all courses horizontally, you must complete the entire "SSX 3 World Circuit" with every character, achieving at least a Bronze medal in all events. This is a significant undertaking!
- Infinite Boost: While not a direct unlockable, achieving a sufficiently high "Reputation" level (usually around level 10-12) will grant your character a permanent boost to their "Boost" stat, making it feel almost infinite during runs where you chain tricks effectively. Focus on performing Uber tricks and maintaining combos.
