Banditry and Criminal Activities

Survive the lawless Zone in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 by understanding banditry tactics, their ambushes, and how to counteract their criminal activities.

Banditry and Criminal Activities

The Zone is a lawless place, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the activities of the bandits. These ruthless individuals prey on weaker Stalkers, ambushing travelers, raiding camps, and engaging in all manner of illicit enterprises. Understanding their tactics and how to counter them is crucial for survival and for profiting from your expeditions.

Common Bandit Tactics

  • Ambush Points: Bandits frequently set up ambushes at choke points, such as narrow passages, bridges, or areas with dense foliage. They often use cover effectively and will attempt to flank you.
  • Looting Corpses: Be wary of seemingly abandoned bodies. Bandits may be hiding nearby, waiting for you to approach and loot, only to spring their trap.
  • Territorial Control: Bandit factions often claim specific areas as their territory, marked by makeshift camps and aggressive patrols. Entering these areas without proper preparation is highly dangerous.
  • Extortion and Robbery: In some settlements or on trade routes, bandits may attempt to extort money or valuable items from Stalkers. Refusal often leads to combat.

Dealing with Bandits

  • Preparation is Key: Before venturing into known bandit territory, ensure your gear is in good condition. Stock up on ammunition, medical supplies like Bandages and Medkits, and consider bringing explosives such as F1 Grenades.
  • Scouting and Reconnaissance: Use your binoculars to scout ahead. Look for tell-tale signs of bandit presence: campfires, makeshift fortifications, or unusual concentrations of enemies.
  • Stealth and Evasion: If you're outmatched or outnumbered, stealth is your best friend. Use cover, move slowly, and avoid open areas. If you can, bypass bandit patrols entirely.
  • Exploiting the Environment: Bandits, like other factions, are susceptible to anomalies. Lure them into Electro or Whirligig anomalies to thin their numbers before engaging.
  • Targeting Leaders: In larger bandit encampments, eliminating the leader often causes disarray among their ranks, making them easier to defeat. Look for individuals with slightly better gear or those who seem to be giving orders.
  • Looting Bandit Camps: While dangerous, bandit camps are often rich in loot. They frequently hoard valuable items, including weapons, armor, and rare artifacts. Always check their stashes and fallen enemies thoroughly.

Key Items and Locations

  • Bandit Camps: These can be found in various locations, often in abandoned industrial sites, farmsteads, or cave systems. Early game examples might include the outskirts of the Garbage area or smaller outposts in the Cordon.
  • Stolen Goods: Bandits often carry stolen equipment. You might find a surprisingly good condition AKM-74/2 or a decent Leather Jacket on a fallen bandit.
  • "Lucky" Charms: Some bandits might carry trinkets or small artifacts they've stolen. These can sometimes be sold for a decent price to traders like Sidorovich.

Remember, engaging bandits is a calculated risk. While they can be a source of valuable loot and experience, their unpredictable nature and often superior numbers can quickly turn a profitable encounter into a fatal one. Always assess the situation before engaging.
