Force Abilities: Introduction & Basic Usage

The Force is Cal Kestis's greatest asset, granting him extraordinary abilities beyond the physical. This guide introduces the fundamental Force powers and explains their basic usage in combat and exploration.

As a young Jedi Padawan, Cal Kestis possesses a natural connection to the Force, which manifests in several powers that are crucial for both combat and navigating the environment. These abilities are unlocked and upgraded throughout the game, becoming increasingly vital as Cal faces greater challenges. The most fundamental Force abilities include:

  • Force Slow: This ability allows Cal to temporarily slow down time for enemies and certain environmental elements. It's incredibly useful for creating openings in combat, dodging rapid attacks, or timing precise platforming maneuvers. To use Force Slow, press and hold the desated button (e.g., L2/LT on PlayStation/Xbox).
  • Force Push: A telekinetic shove that can push enemies away, break through weak barriers, or activate certain mechanisms. It's effective for staggering opponents, pushing them off ledges, or clearing paths. Hold the desated button (e.g., R1/RB) to charge and release for a stronger push.
  • Force Pull: The inverse of Force Push, allowing Cal to pull objects or enemies towards him. This is essential for grabbing distant items, pulling levers, or yanking enemies closer for a melee engagement. Hold the desated button (e.g., L1/LB) to charge and release.
  • Force Dash: A quick burst of speed that allows Cal to rapidly close distances or evade attacks. It's often used in conjunction with other attacks for fluid combos.

These basic Force abilities are introduced early in the game and are essential for survival. For instance, Force Push can be used to knock enemies off precarious ledges, instantly defeating them. Force Pull can bring explosive barrels closer, allowing for devastating area-of-effect attacks. In exploration, Force Push might be needed to clear debris, while Force Pull could be used to bring platforms closer or activate ancient mechanisms.

As the game progresses, Cal will unlock more advanced Force powers, such as the Overpower ability (which enhances his melee attacks) and the ability to use Force Slow on himself for enhanced agility. Mastering the timing and application of these powers is key to overcoming the game's toughest challenges. Experiment with combining different Force abilities with lightsaber attacks for devastating combos. For example, using Force Slow on a group of enemies before unleashing a flurry of lightsaber strikes can quickly clear out threats.
