Underwater Exploration & Breathing — Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Guide
Certain areas in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are submerged, requiring Cal Kestis to hold his breath or utilize special equipment to explore. Understanding how underwater traversal works and when you gain the ability to breathe underwater is key to accessing hidden areas and collectibles.
Initially, Cal can only hold his breath for a limited time underwater. This means that many submerged areas are inaccessible until you acquire the necessary means to breathe indefinitely. These sections often contain valuable loot, such as Force Essences, Life Essences, or cosmetic items.
The ability to breathe underwater is typically granted through story progression. On Kashyyyk, after meeting with Mari Kosan and Chief Tarfful at Origin Lake, you will be gifted the Underwater Breather. This crucial upgrade allows Cal to explore submerged environments without the constraint of a breath meter.
Once you have the Underwater Breather, new opportunities for exploration open up:
- Accessing Chests: Many chests containing lightsaber parts, cosmetic items, or other valuable resources are located underwater.
- Discovering Force Echoes: Submerged areas can hide Force Echoes that provide lore and experience.
- Unlocking New Paths: Underwater tunnels or passages can lead to entirely new sections of a planet, often containing secrets or shortcuts.
When exploring underwater, movement controls are similar to those on land, but with added freedom of movement in three dimensions. Be mindful of currents or hostile aquatic life that may inhabit these areas. BD-1 can sometimes highlight interactive elements or pathways even when submerged.
It's important to revisit areas where you previously encountered water once you have the Underwater Breather. Planets like Kashyyyk, in particular, have sificant underwater sections that become accessible only after this upgrade. Keep an eye on your Holomap for any unexplored submerged areas, as they often hold the most rewarding secrets.
