Items & Equipment
Items and equipment in Knights of the Old Republic are crucial for enhancing your party's performance in battle and navigating the galaxy. From healing items that benefit from a high Treat Injury skill to unique gear found on Yavin IV, understanding your inventory and equipping the right items is key to survival. Always check footlockers and defeated enemies for valuable loot.
When you first wake up on your ship under Sith attack, Trask will guide you to a footlocker behind you. Select it (a small blue circle will appear, and "footlocker" will display in the corner of your screen) or use the bottom trigger buttons to open it. Take all items inside to gain 50 XP. Trask will then explain how to equip your new gear.
- Equip Screen: This screen allows you to equip items to improve combat performance. Some items require specific feats, while others are universally beneficial.
- Party Inventory - All Items: Here, you can view all your items and their descriptions. For datapads, select them and use the right thumbstick to read further.
- Treat Injury: This skill is vital for healing. A higher Treat Injury skill increases the effectiveness of healing items.
- Security: While useful for opening locked doors and lockers, it's not essential in KOTOR1. You can bash them open with weapons, though lightsabers are more efficient. This method forgoes XP but is viable given the level 20 cap.
On the space station orbiting Yavin IV, you can find Suvam Tan, a friendly inventor. He sells rare items and equipment, including unique lightsaber crystals and infinite-use droid weapons, not available elsewhere. He also offers higher prices for items you sell. More inventory becomes available from Suvam as you discover more Star Maps. On the Xbox version, access to this station requires free DLC, which is no longer available after the original Xbox Live shutdown if not downloaded previously.
After finding three of the four Star Maps, the Ebon Hawk is captured by the Leviathan. A designated party member must infiltrate the facility to rescue the imprisoned crew. Once freed, your equipment can be recovered from lockers in the next room. Canderous will then prepare the Ebon Hawk for launch, while the Padawan, Bastila, and Carth disable hangar bay shields from the bridge.
