Friendship Levels and Unlocks
Each villager has a friendship meter that increases as you talk to them, give them gifts, and complete quests for them. As your friendship level increases, you'll unlock new content:
- 2 Hearts: You'll receive a letter in the mail containing a recipe or a useful item. For example, Shane will send you a recipe for Pepper Poppers.
- 3 Hearts: Villagers will start sharing more about their lives and personalities.
- 4 Hearts: You'll receive a letter with a gift. For instance, Pam might send you a Beer.
- 6 Hearts: More recipes and gifts are unlocked. Emily might send you a Wool, and Harvey might send you a Coffee.
- 7 Hearts: This level often unlocks significant events or further relationship progression. For example, you might receive a new recipe or a special item.
- 8 Hearts: More heartfelt letters and gifts are sent.
- 10 Hearts: This is the maximum friendship level for most villagers. At this point, you can receive a special gift, and if you've given them a bouquet (at 8 hearts), you can pursue marriage.
Marriage and Spousal Benefits
Once you reach 10 hearts with a marriage candidate and give them a bouquet at 8 hearts, you can propose marriage. A spouse offers several benefits:
- Daily Gifts: Your spouse will occasionally leave gifts for you in the morning, such as Coffee, Sashimi, or even valuable items like Prismatic Shards.
- Farm Help: They may help with farm chores, such as watering crops or feeding animals.
- Emotional Support: They offer encouraging dialogue and can make your farm feel more like a home.
- Unique Dialogue and Events: Marriage unlocks special dialogue and cutscenes specific to your spouse.
Special Villager Interactions and Events
Beyond standard gifts and recipes, certain villagers offer unique benefits:

- Robin: At 7 hearts, she may offer you a choice: either receive a research grant of 1,000g or have her install a "Minecart" on your farm, allowing for faster travel.
