Key Items & Collectibles
Stardew Valley is filled with several items, some of which are crucial for progression, unlocking new areas, or completing collections. This guide highlights important key items and collectibles you'll encounter throughout your journey.
From essential tools and crafting components to rare artifacts and unique treasures, understanding the sificance of various items is vital for a successful playthrough. These items can be found through farming, mining, fishing, foraging, combat, and completing quests. Some are consumables, while others are permanent additions to your inventory that unlock new gameplay mechanics or provide valuable information.
Essential Progression Items:
- Tools: Axe, Pickaxe, Hoe, Watering Can, Scythe, Fishing Rod, Bug Net. These are fundamental for almost all activities.
- Ores and Bars: Copper, Iron, Gold, Iridium. Used for tool upgrades, crafting, and selling.
- Gems: Amethyst, Topaz, Quartz, Emerald, Aquamarine, Ruby, Jade, Diamond. Valuable for selling, gifts, and crafting.
- Wood and Stone: Basic crafting and building materials.
- Seeds: Essential for farming.
Artifacts:
Artifacts are ancient relics that can be found by digging in artifact spots with your Hoe, breaking Geodes at the Blacksmith, or found in fishing treasure chests. Donating a certain number of artifacts to the Museum will reward you with unique items and unlock new areas or gameplay features.
- Common Artifacts: Clay, Stone, Flint, Seaweed, Green Algae, White Algae.
- Rare Artifacts: Ancient Seed, Dwarf Scroll, Elvish Jewelry, Dinosaur Egg, Rusty Cog, etc.
Minerals:
Minerals are found primarily in the Mines and Geodes. They are distinct from gems and often have specific uses. Donating minerals to the Museum also contributes to its completion.
- Common Minerals: Granite, Limestone, Sandstone, Basalt, Slate.
- Rare Minerals: Geodes (containing various gems and minerals), Omni Geode.
Special Items & Collectibles:
- Stardrop: A rare item that permanently increases your maximum energy. Found by reaching maximum friendship with a villager, eating one from the Traveling Cart, or completing certain quests.
- Prismatic Shard: The rarest gem, found in Omni Geodes, Skull Cavern, or from monsters. Used for crafting the Galaxy Sword and other valuable items.
- Skull Key: Unlocks the Skull Cavern in the Calico Desert. Obtained from the Adventurer's Guild after reaching the bottom of the Mines.
- Car Key: Unlocks the JojaMart warehouse. Obtained from the Special Orders Board.
- Magnifying Glass: Allows you to view villager's birthdays and likes/dislikes more easily. Found in the Museum.
- Rusty Key: Unlocks the Sewers. Found in the Museum.
- Secret Note: Clues to hidden secrets and special items. Found through various means.
The Museum:
The Museum, run by Gunther, is where you donate artifacts and minerals. Completing collections provides rewards and helps you learn more about Stardew Valley's lore. Donating 60 items unlocks the ability to find Dinosaur Eggs more easily.
Traveling Cart:
The Traveling Cart, appearing every Friday and Sunday in the Cindersap Forest, sells several items, including rare seeds, artifacts, and sometimes even Stardrops. It's a good source for items you might be missing.
