Watering Can
The Watering Can is one of your essential starting tools in Stardew Valley, crucial for cultivating your farm. It allows you to water your crops, ensuring they grow and produce valuable produce. Upgrading your Watering Can is a key early-game goal, significantly increasing your farming efficiency and reducing the time spent on daily chores.
The Watering Can is indispensable for any farmer in Stardew Valley. It's your primary tool for ensuring your crops receive the water they need to grow. While it starts with a limited capacity, upgrading it at the Blacksmith is a vital step towards a more efficient and profitable farm. A fully upgraded Watering Can can water multiple tiles at once, saving you precious time and energy each day.
Using the Watering Can
To use the Watering Can, first fill it with water by standing in a water source (like your farm's pond, the river, or the ocean) and pressing the action button. Once filled, equip it from your hotbar. Aim at the tilled soil where you want to plant crops and press the action button. A single tile will be watered.
Watering Mechanics
- Daily Watering: Most crops need to be watered every day to grow. Crops will not grow if they are not watered.
- Rain: On rainy days, all crops are automatically watered, and you don't need to use your Watering Can.
- Sprinklers: Later in the game, you can craft or find Sprinklers that automatically water crops in a radius around them, freeing you from daily watering duties.
Upgrading the Watering Can
The Watering Can can be upgraded at Clint's Blacksmith shop in town. To upgrade it, you'll need to bring Clint the Watering Can itself, the required amount of Gold, and the necessary ore:
- Copper Watering Can: Requires 5 Copper Bars and 2,000g. This upgrade allows you to water 3 tiles in a line (one in front and two to the sides) when holding down the action button.
- Steel Watering Can: Requires 5 Iron Bars and 5,000g. This upgrade allows you to water 5 tiles in a line.
- Gold Watering Can: Requires 5 Gold Bars and 10,000g. This upgrade allows you to water 9 tiles in a 3x3 square when holding down the action button.
- Iridium Watering Can: Requires 5 Iridium Bars and 25,000g. This is the final upgrade and allows you to water 18 tiles in a 3x3 square with a single click, or a 5x5 area when holding down the button.
Important Note: When you give your Watering Can to Clint for an upgrade, you will not have it for 2 days. Plan your upgrades accordingly, ideally during seasons where you have fewer crops or when rain is frequent.
Tips for Efficient Watering
- Upgrade Early: Prioritize upgrading your Watering Can as soon as you can afford it. The Gold upgrade is particularly impactful for large farms.
- Plant in Rows: When using the upgraded Watering Can, planting your crops in straight rows makes watering much faster.
- Utilize Rain: Don't worry about watering on rainy days; focus on other tasks.
- Consider Sprinklers: As your farm grows, investing in Sprinklers will eventually eliminate the need for manual watering altogether.
