Locations

Stardew Valley is a vibrant world brimming with unique locations, each offering distinct opportunities for farming, foraging, mining, fishing, and socializing. Understanding where to go and what to do in each area is key to maximizing your farm's potential and your overall enjoyment.

Pelican Town

Pelican Town is the heart of the valley, home to most of the villagers and essential services. You'll spend a lot of time here, so getting to know its layout is crucial.

General Store (Pierre's)

  • Location: Central Pelican Town, east of the Community Center.
  • Purpose: Your primary source for seeds, fertilizer, saplings, and basic farming equipment. Pierre also buys most of your farm goods.
  • Strategy:
    • Early Game: Prioritize buying Parsnip Seeds and Potato Seeds in Spring for quick profits and farming experience.
    • Seed Stocking: Always keep a small stock of common seeds on hand, especially for crops you plan to grow regularly.
    • Special Items: Pierre occasionally sells unique decorative items and recipes. Check his stock daily.

Blacksmith (Clint's)

  • Location: Southeast Pelican Town, near the river.
  • Purpose: Upgrades your tools, breaks open Geodes, and sells crafting recipes for furnaces and other metal-related items.
  • Strategy:
    • Tool Upgrades: Prioritize upgrading your Pickaxe first for better mining efficiency, followed by your Axe for clearing larger logs. Each upgrade takes 2 days and costs money and specific metal bars (e.g., Copper Bar, Iron Bar).
    • Geodes: Save up your Geodes (Omni Geode, Magma Geode, Frozen Geode, Geode) and bring them to Clint in batches to save time. Each geode costs 25g to open.
    • Crafting: Purchase the Furnace recipe early to start smelting ores into bars.

Carpenter's Shop (Robin's)

  • Location: North of Pelican Town, in the mountains.
  • Purpose: Builds and upgrades farm buildings (Coops, Barns, Silos, Stables, etc.), sells furniture, and provides wood and stone.
  • Strategy:
    • Early Game: Your first priority should be building a Silo (100g, 100 Stone, 10 Clay, 5 Copper Bar) to store Hay for your animals.
    • Coop/Barn: Once you have some capital, build a Coop (4000g, 300 Wood, 100 Stone) for chickens, then a Barn (6000g, 350 Wood, 150 Stone) for cows.
    • House Upgrades: Robin also handles house upgrades, which are essential for cooking, marriage, and additional storage.

Fish Shop (Willy's)

  • Location: On the beach, at the southernmost point of Pelican Town.
  • Purpose: Sells fishing rods, bait, tackle, and fishing-related recipes. Willy also buys your fish.
  • Strategy:
    • Fishing Rod: Willy gives you your first Bamboo Pole on Spring 2. Upgrade to a Fiberglass Rod (1800g) as soon as possible to use bait, then to an Iridium Rod (7500g) for tackle.
    • Bait: Always carry Bait (5g each) when fishing to increase bite rate.
    • Crab Pots: Purchase the Crab Pot recipe (1500g) and place them in water to catch various crustaceans and trash.

Community Center

  • Location: Central Pelican Town, west of Pierre's.
  • Purpose: A dilapidated building that can be restored by completing "Bundles" for the Junimos. Restoration unlocks new areas and rewards.
  • Strategy:
    • Early Focus: Prioritize completing the Crafts Room bundles first, as this repairs the bridge to the Quarry, providing valuable mining resources.
    • Pantry: Completing the Pantry bundles unlocks the Greenhouse, allowing year-round crop growth.
    • Fish Tank: Completing the Fish Tank bundles repairs the Glittering Boulder, which is necessary for accessing the Mines.
    • Vault: The Vault bundles require significant gold donations but offer excellent rewards, including bus repair for access to the Desert.

The Mines

Located in the northern mountains, the Mines are your primary source of ores, gems, and monster loot. They are divided into 120 levels, with an elevator every 5 levels.

General Strategy

  • Preparation: Always bring a Pickaxe, a Sword (or other weapon), and plenty of food for health and energy. Bombs are excellent for clearing large rock formations.
  • Elevator: Reach the elevator on every 5th floor to save progress and quickly return to deeper levels.
  • Ore Veins:
    • Copper Ore: Found on levels 1-39.
    • Iron Ore: Found on levels 40-79.
    • Gold Ore: Found on levels 80-119.
    • Iridium Ore: Rare in the regular Mines, more common in the Skull Cavern.
  • Monsters: Each section of the Mines introduces new monsters. Be prepared for combat. Slimes are common throughout.
  • Luck: Check the TV for the daily luck forecast. High luck increases the chance of finding ladders, ore, and gems.

The Secret Woods

A hidden area west of the Wizard's Tower, accessible only by breaking a large log with a Steel Axe or better.

General Strategy

  • Hardwood: The Secret Woods is the best source of Hardwood, with 6 large stumps respawning daily. You'll need a Copper Axe to break these.
  • Foraging: Seasonal forage items (e.g., Fiddlehead Fern in Summer) can be found here.
  • Slimes: Beware of the dangerous Slimes that inhabit the Secret Woods.
  • Statue of Perfection: After year 3, you can find the Statue of Perfection here, which produces 2-8 Iridium Ore daily.

The Beach

South of Pelican Town, the Beach is a great spot for fishing and foraging for unique items.

General Strategy

  • Foraging: Look for Cockles, Mussels, Oysters, and Sea Urchins along the shore. These respawn regularly.
  • Fishing: The ocean offers several fish, including Sardines, Anchovies, and Tuna.
  • Tide Pools: On the far east side of the beach, past the broken bridge (repaired for 300 Wood), you'll find more valuable forage items like Coral and Seaweed.
  • Willy's Shop: visit Willy for all your fishing needs.
