Your decisions here have significant consequences, determining the fate of entire universes. Mission Start and Initial Investigation

This mission begins automatically after completing the main quest "Foreknowledge." You'll receive a distress call from a research facility on the planet Bindi in the Narion system. Prepare for combat, as the facility is overrun with hostile creatures.

  • Travel to Bindi: Set a course for Bindi in the Narion system and land at the designated research facility.
  • Locate the Source: Upon entering the facility, you'll immediately notice strange distortions. Follow the quest markers, fighting off any creatures you encounter. You'll soon discover a unique anomaly that causes you to shift between two distinct realities.
  • Meet the Survivors: In one reality, you'll find a group of scientists led by Director Kaia. In the other, you'll encounter a lone survivor, Rafael Aguerro. Both will explain their predicament and the nature of the "entanglement."

Navigating the Realities and Repairing the Device

Your primary objective is to repair the Probe in both realities. This requires you to gather specific components and activate power conduits, all while shifting between the two timelines.

Reality 1 (Director Kaia's Timeline)

In this reality, the facility is largely intact, but the creatures are more prevalent. You'll need to find components and activate power.

  • Locate the Power Conduits: Follow Kaia's instructions to find and activate the power conduits. These are typically marked by glowing panels.
  • Gather Components: Kaia will direct you to specific locations within the facility to find parts for the Probe. These include:
    • Distortion Suppressor: Often found in a lab area, possibly behind a locked door (requires Digipick).
    • Phase Calibrator: Located in a storage room or maintenance bay.
  • Combat Encounters: Be prepared for frequent encounters with aggressive alien creatures. use cover and your best weapons.

Reality 2 (Rafael's Timeline)

This reality is significantly more damaged and dangerous. The creatures are fewer but often more powerful, and environmental hazards are common.

  • Locate the Power Conduits: Rafael will guide you to the power conduits in his reality. These might be harder to reach due to debris or structural damage.
  • Gather Components: Rafael will also have you search for Probe components. These are often in different locations than in Kaia's reality:
    • Frequency Resonator: May be in a collapsed section, requiring careful navigation.
    • Quantum Stabilizer: Could be in a flooded area or behind a barricade.
  • Environmental Hazards: Watch out for explosive barrels, electrical hazards, and collapsing structures.

The Choice: Saving One Reality

Once you have gathered all the necessary components and activated the power conduits in both realities, you will be faced with a critical decision. You can only save one reality.

Option 1: Save Director Kaia's Reality

To save Kaia and her team, you must ensure the Probe is fully functional in her timeline.

  • Finalize Repairs: Return to the main anomaly chamber in Kaia's reality.
  • Activate the Probe: Interact with the Probe and choose to initiate the sequence that saves Kaia's universe.
  • Consequence: Rafael's reality will be destroyed, and he will perish. You will receive a unique weapon, the Experiment A-7 (a powerful laser rifle), from Kaia as a reward.

Option 2: Save Rafael's Reality

To save Rafael, you must prioritize the Probe's functionality in his timeline.

  • Finalize Repairs: Return to the main anomaly chamber in Rafael's reality.
  • Activate the Probe: Interact with the Probe and choose to initiate the sequence that saves Rafael's universe.
  • Consequence: Director Kaia and her team will be destroyed. Rafael will join your crew as a companion and provide you with a significant amount of Credits and potentially other valuable resources.

Option 3: The "Impossible" Solution (Saving Both)

While the game presents this as an either/or choice, there is a hidden path to save both realities, though it requires precise timing and quick thinking. This is generally considered the "best" outcome by many players.

  • The "Switch" Mechanic: As you approach the final activation of the Probe, you will notice a series of Emergency Cutoff Switches located throughout the facility in both realities. These switches are crucial.
  • Simultaneous Activation: The trick is to activate the Emergency Cutoff Switches in both realities in rapid succession. You will need to shift between realities quickly, activating a switch in one, then immediately shifting and activating the corresponding switch in the other.
    • Strategy: Identify the locations of all switches in both realities beforehand. Plan your route.
    • Timing is Key: There's a very short window after activating a switch in one reality to activate its counterpart in the other. If you're too slow, the previous switch will reset.
    • Recommended Path: Start with a switch in Kaia's reality, immediately shift, hit the corresponding switch in Rafael's, then move to the next pair. Repeat this for all switches.
  • Final Activation: Once all switches are simultaneously active, return to the main anomaly chamber in either reality. The Probe will now have an additional option to "Stabilize Both Realities."
  • Consequence: Both Kaia and Rafael, along with their respective realities, are saved. You will receive both the Experiment A-7 weapon and Rafael as a companion, along with the Credits. This is the most rewarding outcome.

Post-Mission Rewards

Regardless of your choice, you will gain significant XP and progress further in the main story. The specific rewards depend on who you saved:
