Main Quest List
Welcome, Starfarer! This comprehensive guide details every step of Starfield's main questline, ensuring you don't miss a single artifact or crucial conversation. Follow these detailed instructions to uncover the mysteries of the universe and shape the destiny of humanity.
One Small Step
Your journey begins in the depths of the Argos Extractors mine on Vectera. After a mysterious encounter with an artifact, you'll be thrust into the world of Starfield.
- Objective: Mine the strange rock formation.
- Action: Equip your Cutter (found in your inventory) and aim it at the glowing rock. Hold down the fire button to extract the material.
- Location: Argos Extractors Mining Outpost, Vectera.
- Reward: Initial XP, introduction to the main quest, and the first artifact.
- Strategy: After the vision, follow Supervisor Lin and Heller. They will guide you through the initial tutorial elements, including basic movement and interaction.
The Old Neighborhood
With your first artifact in hand, Constellation will task you with finding more. Your first lead takes you to a familiar face.
- Objective: Travel to Venus and meet with Sarah Morgan.
- Action: Head to your ship, the Frontier. Interact with the pilot's seat to take off. Open your Starmap (M key on PC, Menu button on Xbox) and plot a course to the Sol system, then to Venus.
- Location: New Atlantis, Jemison (Alpha Centauri system) and Venus (Sol system).
- Strategy: Upon landing in New Atlantis, follow the quest marker to the Lodge, Constellation's headquarters. Speak with Sarah Morgan. She will then accompany you to Venus. Be prepared for potential space combat encounters around Venus; ensure your ship's shields and weapons are powered up.
- Item of Note: You'll receive a basic set of space gear, including a Deep Mining Helmet and Deep Mining Pack, early in this quest.
Into the Unknown
The search for artifacts intensifies, leading you to discover ancient temples and unlock extraordinary powers.
- Objective: Investigate the anomaly on Procyon III.
- Action: After speaking with Vladimir Sall at The Eye, he will provide coordinates for an anomaly on Procyon III. Grav jump to the Procyon A system and land at the designated anomaly site.
- Location: The Eye (orbiting Jemison), Procyon III.
- Strategy: Once on Procyon III, use your scanner to locate the source of the anomaly. You'll need to follow the distortions in your scanner's display. This will lead you to a mysterious temple. Inside, you'll engage in a short puzzle involving floating lights to activate the temple's power and receive your first Starborn Power.
- Reward: First Starborn Power, XP.
Further Into the Unknown
The universe is vast, and so are the mysteries. More artifacts mean more temples and more powers to uncover.
- Objective: Locate additional temples and acquire more Starborn Powers.
- Action: Return to The Eye and speak with Vladimir Sall again. He will provide new coordinates for additional anomaly sites across various star systems.
- Location: Various star systems as directed by Vladimir.
- Strategy: Each temple presents a similar, but slightly varied, puzzle involving collecting or interacting with floating light particles. The key is to move quickly and efficiently to gather all the lights before they dissipate. The number of lights and their movement patterns may vary. Be prepared for potential hostile fauna or pirates on the planets where temples are located.
- Tip: Investing in the "Boost Pack Training" skill can significantly aid in navigating the temple puzzles.
High Price to Pay
The pursuit of knowledge comes with a cost. This quest marks a pivotal, and potentially tragic, moment in your journey.
- Objective: Defend The Lodge or The Eye from the Starborn attack.
- Action: You will receive an urgent distress call. You must choose to either defend The Lodge on Jemison or The Eye orbiting Jemison. Your choice will determine which companion survives.
- Location: The Lodge (New Atlantis, Jemison) or The Eye (orbiting Jemison).
- Strategy: This is a difficult combat encounter. Ensure your best weapons and armor are equipped. If defending The Lodge, use cover effectively. If defending The Eye, be prepared for zero-G combat. Focus fire on the Starborn enemies, particularly the more heavily armored ones.
- Consequence: One of your companions (the one you do not choose to save) will perish during this quest. This decision has lasting narrative implications.
Unity
The path to understanding the artifacts culminates in a profound revelation about the nature of the universe.
- Objective: Reach Unity and become Starborn.
- Action: After collecting all the artifacts and assembling the Armillary, you will be guided to a final confrontation and a choice that reshapes your existence.
- Location: Various locations leading to the final confrontation.
- Strategy: This quest involves a series of challenging encounters and philosophical choices. Be prepared for intense combat against Starborn adversaries. The final decision you make will determine your ultimate fate and the beginning of a new game cycle (New Game+).
- Reward: Access to New Game+, Starborn armor and ship, and a deeper understanding of the Starfield universe.
