Short Sighted
The "Short Sighted" mission tasks you with addressing a critical malfunction aboard The Eye, the Starborn's orbital research station. This mission is crucial for maintaining the integrity of The Eye's operations and ensuring its continued support for your artifact hunting endeavors. Prepare for a series of repairs and potential hazards.
Mission Start and Initial Assessment
This mission typically triggers after a period of using The Eye for artifact location or after completing a previous main story quest that involves The Eye. You'll receive a distress call or a direct instruction to investigate issues with the station's systems.
- Return to The Eye: Fast travel to The Eye, which orbits a planet in the same system as the Lodge (Jemison, Alpha Centauri system).
- Speak with Vladimir Sall: Upon docking, locate Vladimir Sall, who will brief you on the extent of the damage. He'll explain that several critical systems are offline or malfunctioning, primarily affecting the station's scanning capabilities and structural integrity.
Repairing The Eye's Systems
Your primary objective is to restore functionality to three key areas: the Scan Boosters, the Power Conduits, and the Life Support Systems. Each area presents unique challenges.
1. Scan Boosters Repair
The Scan Boosters are located on the exterior of The Eye and require a spacewalk to access. This section can be tricky due to zero-G movement.
- Locate the Access Hatch: From the main hub of The Eye, navigate to the airlock leading to the exterior. It's usually marked by a mission objective.
- Perform the Spacewalk: Once outside, use your boost pack to maneuver. Be mindful of your oxygen and CO2 levels. There are usually several malfunctioning Scan Boosters.
- Interact with Boosters: Approach each damaged Scan Booster and interact with it to initiate the repair sequence. This often involves a simple button press or a quick mini-game.
- Return Inside: After repairing all designated Scan Boosters, return to the airlock and re-enter The Eye.
2. Power Conduits Restoration
The Power Conduits are located within the interior of The Eye, often in maintenance tunnels or less-trafficked areas. These repairs might involve rerouting power or replacing damaged components.
- Follow the Nav-Marker: Your mission objective will guide you to the areas with damaged power conduits.
- Identify Damaged Conduits: Look for sparking wires, exposed panels, or conduits emitting smoke.
- Repair or Reroute:
- Some conduits may require a direct interaction to repair.
- Others might involve a puzzle where you need to activate switches in a specific order to reroute power. Pay attention to any terminals or data slates nearby that might provide clues.
- You may need to find spare parts. Look for Conduit Repair Kits or similar items in nearby storage crates or on workbenches.
3. Life Support Systems Stabilization
The Life Support Systems are critical for the crew's well-being and are often found in a dedicated section of The Eye. This part of the mission might involve dealing with environmental hazards.
- Navigate to Life Support: Follow your mission objective to the Life Support section.
- Address Environmental Hazards: You might encounter areas with low oxygen, toxic gas, or extreme temperatures. Ensure you have appropriate environmental protection on your spacesuit or use consumables like O2 Tanks or Med Packs if necessary.
- Repair the Main Console: The primary issue often stems from a central control console. Interact with it to initiate repairs. This could involve a simple fix or a more complex diagnostic sequence.
- Replace Filters/Components: You may be prompted to replace damaged air filters or other components. These are usually found within the Life Support area itself.
Reporting Back to Vladimir
Once all three critical systems have been addressed, your final step is to inform Vladimir Sall of your success.
- Locate Vladimir: Return to Vladimir Sall's usual location in the main hub of The Eye.
- Debrief: Speak with him to confirm the repairs are complete. He will express his gratitude and the mission will conclude, granting you experience points and potentially credits or other rewards.
Tips for Success
- Check your Inventory: Before starting, ensure you have a good supply of Med Packs, Trauma Packs, and potentially O2 Tanks, especially for the spacewalk and life support sections.
- Use your Scanner: Your hand scanner is invaluable for highlighting interactive objects, damaged components, and potential loot.
- Read Data Slates: Any data slates or computer terminals you find might contain valuable information or clues for puzzles.
- Mind your Environment: Always be aware of your surroundings, especially during spacewalks or in hazardous interior zones.
