Street Fighter 6 offers two primary control schemes: Classic and Modern. Understanding the differences is key to finding your preferred playstyle.
Classic Controls
This scheme is for traditional fighting game players, utilizing six attack buttons (Light, Medium, Heavy Punch; Light, Medium, Heavy Kick) and directional inputs for special moves. It offers the most granular control and damage potential but requires precise execution.
- Light Punch (LP): Quick, low damage, good for starting combos.
- Medium Punch (MP): Balanced speed and damage.
- Heavy Punch (HP): Slow, high damage, often used for combo finishers.
- Light Kick (LK): Quick, low damage, good for pokes.
- Medium Kick (MK): Balanced speed and damage, often used for anti-airs.
- Heavy Kick (HK): Slow, high damage, often used for knockdowns.
- Special Moves: Performed with directional inputs (e.g., Quarter-Circle Forward + Punch for Hadoken).
Modern Controls
Designed for newcomers, Modern controls simplify special move inputs to a single button press combined with a direction. This allows players to focus more on strategy and less on execution. While easier to learn, Modern controls often have slightly reduced damage output for certain moves compared to Classic.
- Attack Button: Combines Light, Medium, and Heavy attacks into context-sensitive presses.
- Special Button: Pressing this with a direction executes a special move.
- Auto-Combo: Repeatedly pressing the Attack button performs a simple combo.
- Assist Button: Used in conjunction with other buttons for specific actions or simplified inputs.
Experiment with both in the Training Mode to see which suits you best. You can switch between them at any time.
